Obituary

Windsor Russell Edwards, 78, Departed this life on December 31, 2025, in Chesterfield, VA. He was born on April 4, 1947, the second of six children born to Lois Neal Patterson Edwards and Willie James Edwards. He was educated in the Newport News, VA public school system and graduated from Huntington High School in 1965.

In 1969, Windsor's daughter Tracey was born. On May 31, 1969, he married the former Sandra Holley in Hampton, VA. To this union were born two children: Tonya Enrika and Windsor Jermaine.

He was born and raised in the Newport News, VA Church of God as well as the Kinston, NC Church of God, where his father was pastor, and later General Overseer.

After high school, Windsor worked as an apprentice at the Newport News Shipbuilding and Dock Co. After a period of time, he was drafted into the United States Army and served from 1966 to 1968 in Viet Nam. He was a decorated war veteran, receiving the Purple Heart on May 22, 1967, for his leadership and bravery. His oldest grandson, Grady McLean IV, has followed in his footsteps, and now serves as a career captain in the U.S. Army.

After the military, Windsor became a proud graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University with a degree in art education and pursued his passion for creativity and learning.

Beyond his professional and military accomplishments, Windsor was known for his love of sports. Whether it was football, basketball, baseball, boxing, or fishing on a quiet afternoon, he found joy in both watching and participating in the games he loved. His enthusiasm was infectious. He could talk stats for hours or recount plays with vivid detail and excitement.

On January 1, 2000, Windsor married the former Debra Clark. Their love for music, especially jazz, was well known. Though his professional path led him to a long-standing career with the United States Postal Service, his artistic roots remained an integral part of who he was. His artistic ability was passed down to one of his nephews, Anthony Hurst II.

Windsor lived a life marked by service, dedication, and a spirited sense of humor that touched all who knew him.

Those who knew Windsor remember him as loyal and giving, always ready to lend a hand or share a laugh. His sense of humor brought lightness even in difficult times and left lasting impressions on friends and acquaintances alike.

May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and serve as a reminder of a life lived with heart and purpose.

Windsor was preceded in death by his parents, Lois Neal Patterson Edwards and Willie James Edwards Sr.; his siblings: Valerie Edwards Price, Delton Frenchie Edwards, Connie Edwards Smith, and Willie James Edwards Jr; and his nephew, Anthony Edwards.

He leaves to mourn his death his dear wife of 26 years, Debra Edwards; his daughters, Tracy McLean (Grady), and Tonya Williams (Garland); his son Windsor Jermaine Edwards; five grandchildren: Grady McLean IV, Jax'zon Taylor McLean, Marshall Williams, Morgan Williams, and Asia Poindexter; one great-grand child, Ava Poindexter; one sister,  Barbara Hurst (Anthony,); two sisters-in-law, DeAtlas Edwards, and Stephanie Edwards; three nieces, Karen Paige (Eric,) Lois Jackson (Philip,) and Joslyn Pritchett-Ladd (Don); three nephews: Eric Edwards (Afton,) James Edwards, and Anthony Hurst II (Jessica), and a host of great nieces and nephews, cousins, family members, and friends.
