Obituary

Mrs. Willie Lee Jones of Prince George, Virginia, peacefully entered eternal rest on August 18, 2026, at the age of 92. Born in Scotland Neck, North Carolina, to the late Martha Kirby, Mrs. Jones later relocated to Prince George, Virginia, where she was lovingly raised by her stepfather, George Charles, and his wife, Carrie Charles.

At an early age, Mrs. Jones accepted Christ and became a devoted member of Powell's Creek Baptist Church. She attended the Disputanta Training School and later married her first love, Samuel Gill Jones. Together they built a family, welcoming four children into their lives.

For many years, Mrs. Jones dedicated herself as a housekeeper, before embarking on a remarkable career with Prince George County Public Schools as a bus driver. Over her 54 years of service, she touched countless lives, offering kindness and care to generations of students. She retired in 2014, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and steadfast commitment to her community.

Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her daughter, Karen Jones, her husband, Samuel "Robert" Jones, and her granddaughter, Veronica White. She was fondly remembered for her love of playing cards, tending to her garden, searching for treasures at yard sales, and baking the most delicious bread puddings and sweet potato pies. She was a member of Lebanon Baptist Church in Disputanta, Virginia where she found fellowship and friendship.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory: her loving children, Ms. Carrie West-Bey (caretaker), Mrs. Kathleen Rose (Joseph Leon), and Deacon Ronnie Jones (Charlotte); her grandchildren include, Cassenia Goodwyn-Bey, Jerell Jones (Felicia), LaTasha West-Bey, Tomeka Hinton (Tony), and Ebony Hargrove (Stefan Jr.); great grandchildren, Bryan Goodwyn-Bey (Samantha), Jasmine Jones of Atlanta, GA, Iesha Goodwyn-Bey (Tiara), Trevon Jones, Emani Jones, August White, Savannah Hargrove, Craig Hargrove, Tyren Hinton, and Ethan Hargrove; great-great-grandchildren, Janeicia Goodwyn-Bey, Kianna Goodwyn-Bey, Amere Rich, Iyonna Rich, Alexander (AJ) Pitts, Lorenzo Goodwyn-Bey, and Royal France also hold dear memories of her.

Among her siblings, George Pete Charles and Otis Charles (Cheryl). She is also survived by godchildren, Theresa Taylor and Aubrey Taylor, as well as close friends Doris Allen, Larry "Bro" Blanding, Juanita Card, Marilyn Carroll, Joanne Crockett, Janie Harris, David Jones, Victoria Jones, Berniece and Bubba McDaniels, Elihu West-Bey and her Lebanon Baptist Church family.

The family extends special thanks to Gentiva Hospice, her devoted caregiver Indira Simmons-El, and a host of other relatives and friends. Mrs. Jones' legacy, generosity and kindness will be remembered by all who knew her.
