Obituary

William Scott Cawthon, 51, affectionately known as "Scott" was born on March 28, 1975, at John Randolph Hospital, Hopewell, VA. He departed this life on August 17, 2026, at 1:24 A.M. at VCU Health Medical Center surrounded by his family.

Scott is survived by his mother, Shellie J. Cawthon; wife, Jewel Cawthon; son, Codey A. Cawthon (Dianna); daughter, Gabriella Winfield (Thomas); daughter, Kayla Stewart; stepdaughter, Courtney Richelle; sister, Stephanie Altman (March); brother, Danny Cawthon, Jr. (Cindy); beloved grandchildren, Corbin, Nik, Cisco, Elena, Jakk, and Kaya; as well as his great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Danny W. Cawthon, Sr.

Scott enjoyed being outside, fishing, spending time with family, listening to music, NASCAR and the beach. He was kind, giving, and so loving. Even when he didn't have much, he still shared what he could and loved with all his heart. His grandchildren were especially precious to him.

Scott loved being outdoors and animals seemed to love him too. He was great with his hands and could fix just about anything on a car. He was also funny and always cracking jokes, even if they weren't always the most appropriate. Scott was also genuine, thoughtful and creative.

Scott might have looked tough with his rock music, cut-off sleeves, and cut-off jeans, but he was really a big softie who just wanted to laugh and spend time with family and friends. It was hard to make him angry unless someone hurt his family. He never judged people and always tried to see the good in everyone. Scott was supportive and was always there for the people he cared about. Most of all, he was kind.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 A.M., Saturday, August 22, 2026,, at Woodlawn Baptist Church, 3120 Woodlawn Avenue, Colonial Heights, VA.
