Wesley E.
Oliver
Mar 16, 1953 — Sep 25, 2025
Wesley Eugene Oliver entered eternal rest on Thursday, September 25, 2025. Born on March 16, 1953, in Petersburg, Virginia, Wesley was a beloved son, devoted father, cherished grandfather, and loyal friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He was the son of Wilbur J. Oliver, Sr. and the late Theresa Perkins Oliver.
Wesley grew up in Hopewell, Virginia, and graduated from Hopewell High School in 1971, where his passion for music shone through as a dedicated member of both the Stage and Senior Bands. Following high school, he furthered his education at John Tyler Community College in Chester, VA.
For many years, Wesley dedicated his professional life as a Laboratory Technician at Hercules Inc. in Hopewell, from which he eventually retired.
Wesley was baptized at a young age and began his service to the Lord on the Usher Board at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Hopewell, VA. Later in life, he became a faithful member of Village of Faith Ministries in Midlothian, VA, where he offered his time and spirit to serve wherever he was needed.
Affectionately known as "Bro" by his siblings, Wesley was an awesome father and a truly dedicated big brother. He treasured spending time with loved ones and could always be counted on to never miss a family gathering. He cooked a "mean" holiday turkey that was a fixture at celebrations.
Wesley embraced life with a joyful spirit. He was an avid music lover and regularly attended jazz festivals. He enjoyed the thrill of travel, often embarking on casino bus trips and riding the train to Florida to visit friends. In his younger years, Wesley certainly had a "need for speed," proudly owning the iconic "muscle car" of the 1970's, the Chevrolet Camaro SS.
Wesley's memory will be forever cherished by his devoted daughter and son-in-law, LaTawnya and Michael Askins, and his adored grandson, Xavier Askins.
He is survived by his father, Wilbur J. Oliver, Sr.; his loving sisters, Mary Ann, Carolyn, Muriel, Sharon, and Linda; and his brother, Milton. Wesley is also survived by his nephews, Richard Simon (Shelly), Michael Perry (Veronica), and Rashaun Conover (Liz); great-nieces, Brielle and Liliana Conover; and his great-nephews, Richard II and Jordan Simon. He leaves behind a host of cousins and friends, including his devoted friends, Greg Craighead, Jannis Hawkins, Dwight King, Ronald Powell, and the Village of Faith Gatekeepers.
Wesley was preceded in death by his brother, Wilbur Oliver, Jr.
