Obituary

With deep sorrow and cherished memories, the family announces the passing of Wasena Stephens Wooten Jr., who transitioned from this life on May 4, 2025, at the age of 60. Born on August 3, 1964, in Fredericksburg, Virginia, Waseena-affectionately known to many as "Stevie"-was a devoted son, brother, uncle, and friend. He was the beloved son of Wasena Wooten, Sr. and Betty Wooten, who survive him.

He is also survived by his loving brother, Kennis Wooten; sister-in-law, Rowena Wooten, and his special friend, Dianne Brown. Stevie was deeply connected to his extended family. He leaves to mourn his aunt, Virginia Griffin and her husband Herman Griffin; his uncles, Vagola Wooten (Davila Wooten) and George Wooten, Jr.; his godfather, Thomas Parker along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will miss him greatly.

A proud graduate of Petersburg High School, Class of 1982, Stevie was a standout member of the school's football team. He went on to further his education at Virginia Tech and Virginia State University, ultimately earning his degree in Computer Programming from ECPI, where he developed a lifelong passion for computers and electronics.

Beyond his professional skills, Steve was a man of many talents and interests. He was an avid Washington Redskins/Commanders fan, cheering for his team with unwavering loyalty. His hobbies included beekeeping, woodworking, and exploring the inner workings of computers and electronic devices.

Faith and service were also cornerstones of Stevie's life. He gave generously of his time as a volunteer at Gilfield Baptist Church, where his quiet spirit and helping hands left a lasting impact on his church community. Stevie's legacy is one of intelligence, humility, generosity, and love for family and tradition.

He will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Services will be held 3:00 P.M, Friday, May 16, 2025, at Gillfield Baptist Church, 209 Perry Street, Petersburg, VA, the Rev. Dr. George W. C. Lyons, Jr., Pastor.
