Walter C.
Lundy, Jr.
Sep 19, 1966 — Jun 3, 2025
A much-loved brother and community leader, Dr. Walter Cartwright Lundy, Jr., 58, of Clinton, MD, departed this life on Tuesday, June 3, 2025. Walter was born on September 19, 1966, in Petersburg, VA, and resided in the DMV for the past 25+ years. He was a Petersburg High School Class of 1984 graduate, and received his B.S. from Virginia Tech. He went on to receive graduate degrees, including a master's from Ohio State University and a Ph.D. from the illustrious Howard University. He also was a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated.
Without compromise or negotiation, Walter showed up as his authentic self. Generous and deeply connected to people, Walter possessed the rare ability to not only connect with everyone, but the ability to connect people to each other. He was able to bring groups together, making everyone, including strangers feel valued, heard, and important. Walter shined and found joy and his calling as a community builder. He was known as a social butterfly, who loved to host memorable gatherings, which included his annual Christmas Toy Drive for the less fortunate.
Dr. Lundy was a dedicated employee of the District of Columbia (DC) Government for over 20 years and served in various leadership capacities, as well as the founder of a non-profit organization that gave to those in need. The only thing he loved more than giving was his sister, Monica, who was undoubtedly the apple of his eye, and his younger brother, Anthony, who assisted him as caretaker after his mother's passing.
Walter was preceded in death by his father, Walter C Lundy, Sr.; and his mother, Barbara Lundy Thomas; and stepfather, James E. Thomas, uncles, Clarence Thomas and James Thomas; and his aunt, Rosa Taylor.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory: his brother, Anthony Lamont Lundy; sister, Monica Lynette Lundy; uncles, William Thomas, Jr. and David Jackson; aunts, Alice M. Cooper (Roosevelt), Blossie R. Moore, and Queen T. Batts (Leon Sr.); a host of devoted cousins, other relatives, and devoted friends to include Darron Wheeler, Gerry Koffee, and Gemma Thomas, among many others.
Services will be held 12:00 P.M., Saturday, June 28, 2025, at Good Shephard Baptist Church, 2223 S. Crater Road, Petersburg, VA, Bishop Jeffrey L. Reaves, Sr., Pastor, eulogist. The interment to follow at Dinwiddie Memorial Park.
