Obituary

Mr. Walter Goldsmith, Sr. peacefully transitioned to be with the Lord on February 26, 2026, at 100 years old. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Goldsmith and Ala Nee Lewis. Walter was born on April 13, 1925, in Branchville, SC. He was the youngest of fifteen children, George, Orrie, Oliver, Nathaniel, James, John, Matthew, Ernest, Hazel, Hayden, Ellen, Jeanette, Annie, and Madeline all of whom have gone on to glory. Raised in a large and loving family, Walter learned early the values of faith, hard work, resilience, and devotion; principles that guided him throughout his remarkable century of life.

Walter proudly served his country as a veteran of World War II. During his service, he was stationed in France, an experience that shaped his worldview and deepened his sense of patriotism. He carried his military pride with quiet dignity for the rest of his life.

He shared more than fifty beautiful years of marriage with his devoted wife, Evelyn Bonner Goldsmith, who preceded him in death. Their union was one of enduring love, commitment, and family strength.

Walter was the proud father of six sons: Walter "Boot" Goldsmith (Carsandra) and Walter Goldsmith, Jr. (Helen), both of whom preceded him in death; Alonzo Goldsmith (Edtina), Audwin Goldsmith (Natasha), Michael Turner (Domonie) and John "Marvin" Turner. He was a cherished grandfather to twenty-eight grandchildren, forty-two great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren. He also leaves behind a host of loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever treasure his memory.

A devout Catholic, Walter remained steadfast in his faith and attended church faithfully until his health declined. His spiritual devotion was a cornerstone of his life, and he lived by the principles he believed in.

Walter was known for his quick wit, playful humor, and flirtatious spirit that could light up any room. He was truly loved until the very end. A lifelong baseball fan, he especially loved his Dodgers and enjoyed the game in all its forms. Well into his 90s, he maintained his independence, proudly driving his Cadillac and living life on his own terms.

Walter Goldsmith Sr.'s legacy is one of strength, faith, family, service, and joy. His life was a blessing, his memory a treasure, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
