Obituary

Virginia Estelle Jackson-Stith, 69, of Sutherland, Virginia, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2025, at Bon Secours Medical Center in Petersburg. Born on December 14, 1955, in Dinwiddie, Virginia, she lived a life marked by compassion, service, and unwavering faith.

A proud graduate of Dinwiddie High School Class of 1974, Virginia continued her education at the Southside Virginia Training School where she earned her license as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Her dedication to caregiving led her to serve in several healthcare institutions throughout her career. She worked with commitment and heart at the Petersburg Home for Ladies, Southside Regional Medical Center, and Hiram Davis Medical Center. In each role, she brought comfort and care to those in need—an extension of the nurturing spirit that defined her life.

Virginia was a devoted member of Rocky Branch Baptist Church in Sutherland, Virginia. Her faith was central to her identity and guided her actions both within the church community and beyond. Whether participating in church activities or offering a helping hand to others, she lived out her beliefs with sincerity and joy.

Known affectionately as "Stelle," Virginia was cherished for her warmth and vibrant personality. She was a nurturer at heart—a social butterfly who found joy in connecting with others. Her home was often filled with laughter during family gatherings where she could be found either standing over the stove preparing meals or sitting at the card table enjoying friendly competition. She had a deep love for animals and dedicated much of her life to caring for them. Her beloved dogs Tiny and Shang were constant companions who brought her great happiness. She also loved her grand-doggies Sparkie and Brady and grand-cat Luna.

Stelle also found peace and pleasure in gardening and outdoor activities. She loved being outside and often took spontaneous drives simply to enjoy wherever the road might lead. These simple joys reflected her free spirit and appreciation for life's everyday blessings.

Virginia leaves behind a legacy of love through her daughte, Shalonda Stith; siblings, Laverne Bumbrey, William Jackson (Pam), Keith Jackson, and Lenore Jackson; as well as a host of devoted nieces and nephews who will carry forward her memory with affection.

She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Margret; parents, George and Bernice Jackson; sibling,s A.J., George, and James Jackson; numerous other family members and close friends; and most tenderly remembered is her late husband, Morris Stith, to whom she held a special devotion.
