Ms. Valerie D. Powell, "Ink", 62, of Petersburg, Virginia, was born on August 18, 1963, she attended Petersburg City Public Schools. Valerie worked at Walmart for seven years until her health became a issue.

Valerie was a very loving and caring person. She enjoyed listening to music, cooking and spending time with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Thomas and Frank Powell; sister, Viola Jones; grandmother, Viola Thomas and Irene Moore; aunts, Francis Thomas and Rithela Jones; aunt, Nancy Thomas; uncles, Charles Moore, Jr., Theodore Jones, Aubrey Thomas, Robert Jones, Sr. and William Thomas; nephews, Keyon Powell and Kjuan Stevens; fiancé, Lydell Hinton;  brother-in-law, Tyrone Baskerville; cousin, Nelson Moore;  and three very close friends, Veronica Collins, Queen Lewis and Rebecca Basknight.

Valerie leaves to cherish her three children, Adasa Powell, Willie Powell (Mea) and Nicole Powell; grandchildren, Raheem and Jaheem Spain, RaeQuan Powell, Willie Powell, Jr., Jayden Powell and Jamarre Ridley; great grandchildren, Adrian Spain and Jahlaysia Warren Spain; two sisters, Yvonne Baskerville and Beverly Thomas; four brothers, Michael Powell, Jerome Thomas, Roderick and Frederick Thomas; one brother-in-law, Tyrone Dabney; aunts, Shirley Christie and Victoria Thoams, Pauline Moore and Robin Hazelwood; uncles, Kenneth Wayne Moore, Sr., Jerry Moore and Reginald Moore; four devoted nieces, Lawanda (Jose), Aunya and Keshae Powell, and Tyyanna Thomas (her gossip partner); nephews, Jereke Powell (Nikeeda), Dvon Powell (Lakendra), Timothy Thomas (Lauren), Dwayne Thomas, Sr. (Markeisha), and Antonio Thomas; cousin, Christopher Thomas (Jennifer).  Valerie also loved her devoted god-children, Kyontae and Sahryah Stevens; numerous friends, Carla Jones, Diane Gibson, Victor Diggs, Faith Downey and Rebecca; three devoted friends, Wendy Johnson, Shirley Finney, Velma Byrd and Ken (from Walmart); and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.

Valerie lived a good and happy life. She will be missed by many people.

Services will be held 1:00 P.M., Saturday, July 18, 2026, in the Chapel of J. M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment, Inc., 102 South Avenue, Petersburg, VA, the Rev. Edward L. Fox III, eulogist. The interment to follow at Wilkerson Memorial Cemetery.
