Theodore Edward
"Teddy" Jones, Sr.
Oct 10, 1945 — May 25, 2025
Theodore Edward Jones, Sr., affectionately known as "Teddy", transitioned peacefully on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at his residence in Chester, Virginia. Teddy was born on October 10, 1945, in Yonkers, New York, to Louise Walker Jones and Robert "Black" Jones, Sr.
Teddy and his family left Yonkers, New York, to move back to Petersburg, Virginia, where he grew up in the "Fifth Ward Community" on Stainback Street and Farmer Street. Teddy had many fond childhood memories in the "Fifth Ward Community" to include growing up with his cousins, "The Couch Family", that were more like brothers and sisters. Teddy attended Peabody High School and later served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. Teddy had mentioned some of his best times in the military was when he was in Japan. He enjoyed the culture and the food. He held several jobs in his lifetime to include his last employment with Central State Hospital.
Teddy was a special unique kind of person. To know him was to love him. Teddy was a loving, caring, and protective father and grandfather. He was very generous and would give you his last. Teddy was quiet and reserved for the most part but let's not forget he could get rowdy if he felt like he needed to. Some fun facts about Teddy that many probably didn't know that he was an awesome grandfather, he could be comical at times and was a very good cook. He would babysit his grandchildren and would cook special dishes that his grandchildren enjoyed just to make them happy and of course he rarely ever said no to them.
Teddy was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Theodore E. "Man" Jones, Jr.; one sister, Elinor Babcock; four brothers, Ronald "Ronnie" Jones, Robert "Bobby" Jones, Jr., Raymond Jones, and Alvin Jones; ten aunts, Ruby Hayes, Senora Lowe, Geneva Gordon, Thelma Lewis, Ethel Couch, Margaret Couch Davis, Lottie Couch, Rosa Couch Goode, Sarah Godsey and Eva Jones; five uncles, Benjamin Walker, Sr., Joseph Stith, Jr., Willie "Big Boy" Couch, Isadore "Izzy" Couch, and Richard "Dick" Couch; four nephews, Darrell "Keith" Jones, Sr., Robert Babcock, Jr., Edward "Tee-Wee" Ruffin, and Ronald "Ronnie" Thweatt.
Teddy leaves to cherish his memories: two loving daughters, Sharon Jones-Baker (Terrance) and Theodosia Jones (Teddy's ride or die); one loving son, Hugo Jones; two step-daughters, Desiree Dean Price (Arkema) and Janickal Hanson; a loving and devoted life partner of 20 years, Shirley Holmes and family; six granddaughters, Takia Brooks-Alston, Rachelle Brooks, Ishani Jones, Arianna Taylor, Nydia Jones and Imani Jones; three grandsons, Ramos Brooks, Jr., Jonathan Baker and Kamaree Jones; one great granddaughter, Genesis Watson-Bey (she brought so much joy to Teddy's Heart); one god-grandson, Zyree Windle; one sister, Deborah Coleman; one brother, Clarence Jones; one sister-in-law, Lucy Jones; one brother-in-law, Robert Babcock, Sr.; eleven nieces and four nephews; several great nieces and nephews; numerous cousins too many to name; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Teddy was loved by many and will truly be missed. He will forever be in our hearts.
