Obituary

Mr. Theodore Alphonso Jones, affectionately known as "Beanie", departed this life on Tuesday, October 21, 2025.  Theodore was born July 20, 1947 to the late Leola Pettiford Jones and the late Louis "Buddy" Jones in Petersburg, VA.

He attended the Petersburg Public Schools System and graduated from Peabody High School, Class of 1967.  After graduation Theodore was employed by Petersburg General Hospital.  He loved serving others and immediately began to love the hospital environment.  He continued to work in hospitals most of his adult life. Ultimately he worked for Emory University Hospital and Grady Memorial Hospital, two of the largest hospitals in the Atlanta Metropolitan area. Theodore retired from Grady Hospital as a dedicated employee of the Neonatal Unit, caring for newborns and premature babies, a position he really loved.

He was baptized at an early age and joined Mount Olivet Baptist Church under the Pastorship of Reverend L.C. Johnson. Many years later Theodore joined the Christian Missionary Baptist Church, College Park, GA under the Leadership of the late Bishop Henry W. White. He remained a devoted member of the Ushers and Men's Ministry until his passing.

Theodore was preceded in death by his grandparents, Samuel Pettiford and Isabel Coleman Pettiford, mother, Leola Pettiford Jones, father Louis "Buddy" Jones, brother, Marcus L. "Quack" Jones, cousins, Roy (Omowale) and Lloyd (Omwakha) Hines and his best friend and devoted cousin, Sharon Pettiford.

"Beanie" was a devoted father, grandfather, son, brother and a faithful, caring and compassionate friend. Family meant everything to him. Many times he opened his home to family and friends when they were facing hard times, offering not just a roof but kindness and encouragement.  His love for music and fashion reflected his vibrant personality.  Two things he absolutely loved: dressing-up and the Pittsburgh Steelers!

He leaves to cherish his memories twin daughters, Keisha Watson (Waverly) of Atlanta, GA and Kenya Watsonof Petersburg, VA; grandsons, Trevel and Sincere Watson both of Petersburg, VA, Roland Watson of Atlanta, GA, and Ezekiel Mohammad of Atlanta, GA; sister, Gloria Pettiford of Petersburg, VA; Brothers, Marcellus Jones (Onetha) of Jonesboro, GA, and Bryant Jones (Crystal) of Chester, VA; one uncle, Sgt.
