Susie Everline Claiborne, 92, of Petersburg, Virginia, also known as "Tootie" or "Ms. Susie", departed this life on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at her residence.

She was born in Dinwiddie County, Virginia, on March 10, 1933, to the late Chessie Williams Claiborne and Tom "Sugar Tom" Claiborne. She is also preceded in death by her daughter, Susie Inez "Frog" Claiborne; sisters, Maggie Claiborne Morgan, Irene Claiborne Morgan and Anna Claiborne Gilliam; brothers, Edward "Ned" Claiborne, Thomas Jr. "Prick" Claiborne, Albert Gordon Claiborne, Arthur Claiborne (by another mother); nephews, Lawrence "Chippie" Gilliam and Thomas Edward Taylor and Richard "Nick" Vaughan; grandparents, Louisa Bland "Lucy" Claiborne and Major Claiborne; grandchildren, Saurice Latasha "her Butterfly" Claiborne and Londre Rasheek "Bunny" Claiborne (her bumblebee), Christopher Lee "Oodie" Claiborne and John Edward "Peter" Claiborne; nieces, Jerline Vaughan Brown; great niece, Tammy Gilliam (who she adored); great nephew, Andrew "Andy" Brown; Alfonso "Al' Gilliam, Kenneth Gilliam; aunt, Floria Mae Williams Gilliam; uncle, Bruce Williams; and her friends, Alice Johnson, Willie Roy Prosise, Joe "Peep" Hamilton and Lonnie Sills (she adored as a son).

Susie grew up in Dewitt County, Virginia, and attended Dinwiddie County Public Schools. She was a member of the Mt. Poole Baptist Church in Ford, Virginia.

She was an avid Tonk card player.  She also enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Susie was such a sweet kind-hearted person, to all that knew her, and she was all about family.  Her favorite television shows included Sanford and Son and Jerry Springer. Professionally Susie was employed on the farm until her illness occurred at the young age of 30 years old.

"Tootie" Claiborne leaves behind her devoted daughter, Heart Luvly Claiborne of Petersburg, Virginia; devoted son, Harvey Lee "Bay" Claiborne of McKenney, Virginia; two grandsons, Marquiche Rondell "Marty" Claiborne and Jarmarian "Jay" Savannah; great grandchildren, Marquiche "Bank Bank" Claiborne, Journee Hawkes, Arianna Harris, Lamyah Claiborne, Zamar Claiborne, Jasiah Cliborne, Jysir Claiborne, Myracle Claiborne and Makayla Morman; niece, Irene "Annette" Claiborne; nephews, Garry Jones, Albert Claiborne, Gordan Claiborne and Thomas Claiborne; great nieces, Chessie Brown, Sadie Brown, Asiah Claiborne, Tommi Claiborne, April Claiborne, Amiya Claiborne, April Brown, Debbie Jones, Franciso Gilliam, Tynesa Gilliam, and Key Key Gilliam; great nephews, Ricky Brown, Thomas Jr. Claiborne, and Andre and Antoine Claiborne, Tony Gilliam, Ricky Gilliam, and Rodney Gilliam; devoted family members, Margaret Crieghton-Gilliam, Ella Mae Browder Jones, Fonda Page, Janice Gray, Rev. Bernard Page, Lozell Dickinson, Rev. Services will be held 3:00 P.M., Saturday, May 17, 2025, in the Chapel of J. M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment, Inc., 102 South Avenue, Petersburg, VA, the Rev. Bernard Page, eulogist. The interment to follow at Wilkerson Memorial Cemetery.
