Obituary

"And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes. And there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain; for the former things are passed away." - Revelations 24:4

Steve F. Morman, Jr. left his earthly home on Saturday, September 27, 2025. He was born on December 16, 1970, in Petersburg, VA to the late Gloria Howelll-Morman and Steve Morman, Sr. He was educated in the Petersburg Public School System until grade 12. Steve proudly achieved his GED, a testament to his resilience and drive. He also attended Richard Bland College for a short period of time. Because of his bubbly personality, he remained close with the teacher who meant the most to him, Ms. Linda Jefferson.

He spent many years working at Verizon, where his warmth and humor turned broken phones and contract renewals into lasting friendships with coworkers and customers alike. He was most recently employed with Museum Resources in New Kent County until his health began to fail. His colleague, Mike Carter, took Steve under his wing—not just as a mentee, but as a son—guiding him with care and preparing him to carry on the role when he retired.

Steve was the ultimate communicator, with the ability to make conversation with any person he met and had a story for every scenario. He quickly adopted his wife's friends as his own, often chiming into their calls with a colorful tale that left everyone laughing! He was a passionate movie enthusiast, finding joy in action thrillers and comedies. He loved fellowshipping at Bethany Baptist Church and particularly enjoyed time there with his "Golden Girls": Mary Acree, Carrie N. Washington, and Gertrude (Sally) Green. One of his many talents was being a faithful Amazon customer, writing immeasurable product reviews and constantly ordering pocketknives, notebooks, and an assortment of pens!  Steve also loved family road trips, especially on long holiday weekends, never missing a chance to explore every rest stop in search of the best snacks before reaching their vacation spot.

Steve was preceded in death by his father, Steve Morman, Sr.; his daughter, Cheyenne Morman; and his mother, Gloria Howell-Morman.

Steve leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife of 18 years, Portia Gaines-Morman; his daughters, Kristen Morman, Caitlyn Butts, Chelsey Morman, Cierra Morman, Shea'LA Morman, and McKenzie Morman; his grandchildren, Aiden and Tia Raines, Candis and Kayden Butts, SaNiaa Coleman, JahFari and Tahir Peterson, Za'Niyah Tucker, and A'mira Morman; his brother, Jason Morman, Sr. (Amanda); aunt, Mrs. Annette (John) Crews; uncle, Mr. James "Snooks" Howell, Jr. (Sandra); nephew, Jason Morman, Jr.; niece, Summer Morman; sisters-in-law, Tammy McWilliams, Zina K. Gaines, and Angela Roane; brothers-in-law, William R. Gaines, Jr. and Walter T. Roane, Sr.; a devoted niece, Yolanda Braxton; and great niece, Alaynah Braxton-Williams; close friend, Laurelle Spence; and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, family, and friends.
