Obituary

Sergeant First Class Willie Lawrence Cuffee, affectionately known as Cuff, Chuck, and Pretty Willie, passed away on December 24, 2025, in Chesterfield, Virginia. He was 82 years old.

Born on March 28, 1943, in Princess Anne County, Virginia, Willie attended Chesapeake, Virginia Public Schools, graduating from Crestwood High school in 1962. He grew up with a deep appreciation for hard work and community. His life was marked by service, dedication, and a vibrant personality that left a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Willie proudly served his country in the United States Army for 21 years, retiring in 1990 with the rank of SFC. His military career focused on strong leadership, a commitment to duty and discipline. Throughout his service, he earned the respect of his peers and superiors alike for his leadership and integrity. Willie was selected for officers' school because of his excellent exam scores. However, declined to move forward due to a debilitating stutter, as he feared becoming an officer would entail a great deal of public speaking.

After retiring from the Army, Willie continued to channel his energy into pursuits that bought him joy and fulfillment. A passionate gardener, he achieved Master Gardener certification—a testament to both his knowledge and love for nurturing life from the soil. Whether tending to flowers or cultivating vegetables, he found peace and purpose in the garden. He also maintained a very successful lawn care and landscaping business for 8 years until declining health forced retirement.

Willie was known not only for his talents but also for his remarkable character. He never met a stranger—his warmth and charm made all feel welcome. With a heart of gold and a wicked sense of humor, he could light up any room with laughter. Those who knew him often remarked on his intelligence; he was one of the sharpest minds around and always ready with a clever observation or thoughtful insight.

Willie was predeceased by his parents, Willie and Corine Cuffee; brothers; Charles and Anderson Benson; and one granddaughter, Tilleah Coleman. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 40 years, Andrea Robertson Cuffee. Other survivors include a daughter, Dominique Cuffee of Hopewell, Virginia; a devoted son, Sean Robertson (Stacey) of Chester, Virginia; two grandsons, William Cuffee of Chesterfield, Virginia and Tucker Robertson of Chester, Virginia; a devoted and loving sister, Priscilla Tennyson of Chesapeake, Virginia; a host of nieces, one devoted, Melanie Littlejohn-Lee (Jimmy) and nephews, one devoted, Darryl Davis (Shirley); brothers-in-law, Raymond Robertson (Connie) of San Antonio, Texas, Rodney, Kirby and Erwin Robertson all of Petersburg, Virginia; and a host of beloved cousins, relatives and friends.
