Obituary

"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. Henceforth, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me on that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love His appearing." - II Timothy 4:7-8

Ms. Senora Edwards Avery of Annadale, VA was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 9, 2026. She was a beloved daughter of George R. Edwards, Sr. and Julia C. Edwards, born on May 3, 1947, in Petersburg, VA.

Senora graduated from Peabody High School in Petersburg, VA in 1965. She moved to Northern Virginia early in life and later furthered her education at University of Phoenix. She was employed with AT&T and ADP where she retired from both. Senora was one of the only African Americans who served in a leadership capacity for Providence. Not only was she a faithful volunteer but also a financial contributor to FCDC and multiple campaigns over the years. She was well known and respected for her expertise and passion for helping Democrats to get elected.

Senora accepted Christ as her personal Savior at a young age and was a member of Mount Olivet Baptist Church, Petersburg, VA and later she became a member of Alfred Street Baptist Church in Alexandra, VA.

Senora's greatest joy was traveling and spending time with her family and friends, especially during the holidays. She was a loving sister, aunt, great aunt and friend whose strength, kindness, and unwavering love left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her. Senora was an avid tennis fan and had immense joy in watching matches whenever she could. Senora was also a big Washington Commanders football fan.

Senora was preceded in death by her parents, George R. and Julia C. Edwards; three brothers, George R. Edwards, Jr., Walter L. Edwards, Sr. and Richard L. Edwards; and two sisters, Bertha Clarke and Doris Edwards.

Senora leaves to cherish her memory and celebrate her life: two sisters, Bernice Stallings (Harry) of Prince George, VA and Diane Mason (Wayne) of North Chesterfield, VA; brother, Carl D. Edwards, Sr. (Marie) of Fredericksburg, VA; and many loving nieces, nephews, several great and grand nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

We loved her, but God loved her best.
