Obituary

Samuel Pierre Jean, affectionately known as Sam or Uncle Sam, was preceded in death by his mother, Marie Rose Pierre Nicholas-Paul (nee, Alcin), father, Luc Meres Pierre Jean, and stepfather, Charles Nicholas-Paul.  Sam was lifelong bachelor with many friends.  He is survived by his maternal sister, Ruthe Laurore (nee. Pierre-Jean); maternal brother, Nickarson Paul (spouse Linda Paul); maternal niece, Kaitlyn Marie Laurore; maternal nephews, Gavin Luc Laurore and Ethan Nicholas Paul; stepbrother, Destin Nicholas, and stepsisters, Weslaine Denson (nee. Nicholas-Paul), and Nirlaine Nicholas-Paul.  He is also survived by several step-nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.  Sam had several friends that were more like family whom he loved dearly.  Sam's list of god-brothers, god-sisters, and mentees include but are not limited to Timothy "Quil" James, Vicky Higgs, Vernell Higgs-Williams (spouse, James Williams), Brandon "Beeta Boss" Brooks, Belinda Teague, Jamel "Mel" Turner, Mickel "Haitian Mike" Valere, Jamel "Mel" Turner, Sandolph "Chix" Georges, Jerome Jones, Michael Higgs, Raqueeb Grant, Travis Rainey and numerous others that he loved and cherished deeply.

Sam was an entrepreneur.  He started Man-Power Management in 1993 whereas the CEO and talent manager, he supported numerous musical artists, authors, and others that were seeking entrepreneurial ventures and seeking professional dreams. He supported his sister, Ruthe, with opening and becoming the Executive Director of Welcome Home Community Services (WHCS), in Prince George, VA where he sat on the board of advisory for WHCS from 2013 through present.  He helped people to pursue their dreams with dedication and passion.  He was described by many as their "biggest supporter" by having high hopes for others to achieve their goals and follow those dreams.  He ran for councilman in Petersburg, VA in 2020, a member of the Petersburg Rotary Club, member of Petersburg Y events and community for several years, and an avid politician at heart.

Sam had a larger-than-life personality.  He enjoyed traveling and visited several places like Jerusalem, Isreal, Haiti on numerous occasions, and several Caribbean and West Indian islands. He loved and collected beautiful art and murals, and he loved his Haitian heritage, and he made sure everyone around him knew it.  He loved making jokes, hanging around family, a skilled debater, and wonderful dancer.  He enjoyed going to the movies, going out to fancy restaurants, shopping for the best clothes (was known as a well-dresser), wine connoisseur, and a 420 advocate.  He lived his life on his own terms.

He was loved by all and he changed several lives.  He will be greatly missed.  We love you Uncle Sam!
