Samuel J. Davis, a beloved brother, uncle, great-uncle, cousin, and friend, was born on October 19, 1962. He was the last of the siblings born to the late Lillian Davis and Samuel Jones in Petersburg, Virginia. He departed this life on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at the age of 63.
Samuel had a joyful spirit and a kind heart. He was the type of person always willing to go the extra mile, not only for his family, but for coworkers, friends, and even people he met in passing. Helping others came naturally to him, and his generosity and compassion were among the qualities that made him special.
Samuel dedicated years to working at Boar's Head in Petersburg and Pizza Hut on Crater Road in Petersburg and Colonial Heights, Virginia. He also worked at the Oak Furniture Store and Bloom's Brother Furniture Store on Sycamore Street in Petersburg, Virginia. He became affectionately known as “Meekie” and “Sam” to many people whose lives he touched. His warm smile, gentle spirit, and willingness to help made him a beloved presence in his workplace and the community.
Samuel was preceded in death by his mother, Lillian Davis; father, Samuel Jones, Jr.; sister, Rosa Lee Jones; grandmothers, Rosa Wyche Jones and Hattie Davis; grandfather, Samuel Jones, Sr. ; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Samuel's memory will forever be cherished by his brother, Bernard Davis (Anna) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; sisters, Hattie Pearl Davis of Chandler, Arizona, and Sandra Flowers (Tony) of Petersburg, Virginia; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, coworkers, and friends.
Samuel leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, laughter, and service that will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His presence brought warmth and joy to the lives of many, and his memory will continue to be cherished by his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.
Though Samuel is no longer with us physically, the love he gave, the lives he touched, the people he encouraged, and the kindness he showed to others will continue to live on.
His family and friends will remember his great sense of humor, his generous heart, his love of family, and the unmistakable way he made people feel welcomed and cared for.
Services will be held 1:00 P.M., Saturday, October 24, 2026, at Third Baptist Church, 550 Farmer Street, Petersburg, VA, the Rev. Dr. Kassandra Bullock, Pastor, and Rev. Lucinda Williams, eulogist. The interment to follow at Dinwiddie Memorial Park.
