Obituary

Saheedah Black departed this life on May 19, 2025. She was the cherished daughter of the late Ruby L. Marshall, who lovingly raised her from the age of one.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her beloved son, Paul Cartier Black, and her father, Malik Black. She is also survived by her grandmother, Pauline Marshall; her brother, Shawn Marshall; her devoted sister, Shimeka Spurlock; her loving aunts, Rhonda Marshall and Tonya Jones;  uncles, Branford Marshall and Terence Marshall, along with a host of cousins, other relatives, and dear friends who will forever hold her in their hearts.

Saheedah grew up in Richmond's West End. She was educated in the Richmond Public Schools system, attending Maymont Elementary, Binford Middle, and Open High School, where she graduated seventh in her class with an outstanding GPA of 4.9. Her academic excellence earned her a scholarship to George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, where she completed two years of study before returning to Richmond.

Upon her return, Saheedah began a promising career at Capital One Financial as an IT Technician. She was admired for her intelligence, determination, and innovative thinking.

Saheedah was smart, resourceful, and full of light—a light that shined brightly every time she smiled or laughed. Her presence brought warmth and joy to every space she entered, and her laughter was contagious to all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Above all, her greatest pride and joy was her son, Paul. He was truly her world, and she devoted herself wholeheartedly to being a loving, nurturing, and supportive mother. Saheedah raised Paul with strength, compassion, and wisdom beyond her years. Her love for him was unwavering and limitless, and it was clear to all who knew her that being his mother was her most treasured role.

Saheedah's legacy is one of perseverance, love, and brilliance. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always
