Born on March 23, 1944, to the late Eddie F. Mayfield and the late Mary Louise Kitt Mayfield in Chesterfield, Virginia, Ruth Elizabeth Harris transitioned to eternal rest on November 1, 2025, at her residence, surrounded by her loving family.

Ruth worked at Chesterfield County Nursing Home for several years, and after her time there, she continued her career with the Chesterfield County Public Schools Custodial Department. She worked at Salem Elementary School and later transferred to Jacob Roads Elementary School.  After 32 years of dedicated service to the children and the county, she retired from Chesterfield County Schools.  Ruth loved to go fishing if the space she stood in was completely clear, and nothing sparked her interest equally, like a good game Bid Whiz or Gin Rummy, and if you had some quarters, Pity Pat.  Ruth loved to smile, loved to dance, and loved to laugh.  She lived out loud and in full color and will forever be remembered that way.

Ruth was preceded in death by two sisters, Irene Cook and Ella Mayfield, two brothers, Ernest and Russel Mayfield, and one son, Walker Harris.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her daughter, Brenda Harris; two sons, Craig Harris (Allyson) and George Harris; two sisters, Bernetta Hayden (Garry) and Lucinda Frye; two brothers, Eddie Mayfield and Charles Mayfield (Barbara); one brother-in-love, Bishop John L. Harris (Rose); her grandchildren, Harold Harris (Adina), Brittany Harris (Terrance), Ashley Harris (Mark), Morgan Harris (Alaina), Tre Harris (Evan), and Christian Rogers (Ava); three great-grandchildren, Jayden, Jayceon, and Torrien; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended love ones. She will forever be loved and cherished.

Services will be held 11:00 A.M., Monday, November 10, 2025, in the Chapel of J.M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment, Inc., 102 South Avenue, Petersburg, VA.
