Obituary

Roderick Jorrathan Warren, Sr., 81, of Petersburg, Virginia, went to heaven peacefully on June 11, 2025. Born on October 8, 1943, to the late Hannah Byrd and Elmore Warren Sr., Roderick was a proud native of Petersburg, where he spent his entire life serving and uplifting his community. He was a graduate of Peabody High School, where he excelled as a football player, an early passion that continued into adulthood when he played semi-professional football with the Tri-City Titans. A devoted fan of the Washington Commanders, Roderick's love for the game never waned.

For 38 years, Roderick served faithfully as an Admissions Supervisor at Central State Hospital and later worked as an Escort Supervisor at Petersburg General Hospital. His dedication, work ethic, and leadership left a lasting impact on colleagues and patients alike.

A man deeply rooted in faith, Roderick was a devoted member of Star of Hope Bibleway Church, where he served as a deacon for more than 40 years. He also briefly served in the same role at Kingdom Covenant Empowerment Center. His steady presence, wise counsel, and kind heart made him a pillar in the church and in the lives of many.

Roderick shared 61 beautiful years of marriage with the love of his life, Virginia Ann Warren. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and devotion. He especially enjoyed taking Virginia out for dinner dates and savoring life's simple joys with her by his side.

Family was the heart of Roderick's world. He took great pride in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, cherishing every moment spent with them. His legacy of love, integrity, and warmth lives on through them.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Virginia Ann Warren; his children, Patricia Griffin (John), Loretha Jones (Charles), and Roderick Warren Jr. (Kim); his grandchildren, Nikeisha Williams (Darryl), Brittany White (Randy), CJ Jones, TJ Taylor, Samantha Barnes, Jessica Warren, Joshua Jones, Courtney-Renee Olamide (Lehin), Matthew Barnes, and Jasmine Warren; and his great-grandchildren, Romel White, Tres' White, Zawadi Jones, and Jabar Fox. He is also survived by his brothers, Elmore Warren, Jr. (Myrtis) and Anthony Warren, Sr. (Hannah), as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Roderick will be lovingly remembered for his unwavering faith, his love of family, his signature sense of humor, and his joy in the simple things - good food, good company, and a good cowboy western.

His presence may be gone, but his legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, June 19, 2025, at Third Baptist Church, 550 Farmer Street, Petersburg, VA, the Rev. Kassandra Bullock, Pastor, Elder Wilbur Earl Tucker, eulogist. The interment to follow at Dinwiddie Memorial Park.
