Rebekah Pitt
Basnight
Jul 16, 1944 — Nov 25, 2025
Our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, sister, cousin, godmother and friend, Rebekah Pitt Basnight, was born on July 16, 1944, in Brooklyn, NY. She transitioned on November 25, 2025, in Petersburg, Virginia.
Daughter of Charles Pitt and Queen Mother Yahweh, born and bred an Israelite, Rebekah, affectionately known as "Emee" or "Beck-Beck" to many, lived a balanced life, walking with her God while embracing joyful moments with family and friends. She would give you the shirt off her back, a meal for your stomach, a place to rest, and a piece of her mind as she saw fit. Rebekah kept it real when sharing advice. She did not sugarcoat what she deemed to be true.
Rebekah's journey on this earth was rich with straight forwardness, resilience and dignity. She was a masterful teacher of the first five books of the Bible, a seamstress, as well as a gifted interior decorator, whose Feng Shui could change at the drop of a hat. She was loved by many.
Rebekah enjoyed watching Westerns, Murder She Wrote, Matlock, Tubi movies and In the Heat of the Night. Her life was worn with courage, hospitality and sincere love for the Most High God, which she taught to her children. She was known for her unique style of dress, adding a special pizzazz and flare to her presence!
Rebekah was a humorous, vibrant woman with a youthful spirit, thus exemplifying that age is nothing but a number. Her transition marks not an ending, but a continuation – her legacy echoing through generations. May her light remain with us always. May her name be remembered with love, honor, and respect as it dwells in our hearts.
Rebekah was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Daniel Basnight, Sr.; son, Enoch Basnight; daughter, Queen Basnight; stepfather, Yonthan Prince; sisters, Ruth Adams, Nyoma Knox, Ernestine Gore, Ruby-Ashaki Seward and Gloria Burroughs; two brothers, Yitz'chak Yeshuah and Leroy Pitt; god-sister, Nettie King and her goddaughter, Veronica Collins.
Rebekah is survived by her sons, Daniel Basnight, Jr. and Yoseph Basnight; daughters, Miriam Basnight, Miriam Bowser and Hannah Ben-Yoseiph; a multitude of grandchildren, among them devoted, Yocobet-Yafah Basnight; numerous great-grandchildren; two sisters, Casedah-Imani and Faith Seward; brother, Laihairoi Seward (Kimberly); god-sister, Josephine King; multiple nieces and nephews, among them the eldest, Deborah Coe, devoted Oni-Hunter (Kevin) and Leayah M. Seward; a host of godchildren, among them the eldest, Dawn "Abigail" Coe (Charles); and other relatives and friends, among them devoted Sherry Gayle Walker, Phyllis Adkins, Renea Baskerville and April Campbell (bonus daughter) whom all will remember her determination, humor and strength.
