Obituary

With heavy hearts and deep love, we celebrate the life and legacy of Queen Tucker Simmons, who peacefully transitioned on Wednesday, June 25, 2025. Born on January 6, 1965, to Martha Dabney and the late Howard Bottoms, Queen embodied grace, strength, and compassion. She was a radiant light in the lives of all who knew her.

A proud graduate of Petersburg High School Class of 1983, Queen furthered her education at Virginia State University, setting a foundation for a life filled with excellence and purpose. Over the years, she held meaningful positions at Andrew Grill, Fort Lee, Church & Dwight Co. Inc., and Virginia State University - each role reflecting her dedication and tireless work ethic.

Queen met the love of her life, Javier Simmons, Sr., and from their union blossomed 26 years of unwavering love. Together, they built a home full of music, laughter, and unforgettable memories. Whether dancing, singing, traveling, or simply enjoying quiet moments, their love was evident to all - genuine, joyful, and unbreakable, he honored her even through her final breath.

Queen's greatest joy came from being "MiMa" - a title she wore like a crown. Her grandchildren were her heartbeat, and she gave each a name that captured her deep love: Marquell Jr., "MiMa Mane", Zion, "MiMa ZiZi," Zacari, "MiMa Rey of Sunshine," and Kulture, "MiMi Little Cupcake". They were the center of her world, the pieces of her heart she treasured most.

A devoted Jehovah's Witness for over 20 years, Queen lived a life rooted in faith, kindness, and humility. Her spiritual walk brought lifelong friendships with her beloved sisters in faith: Cassandra Ward, Jacqueline Parham, Paulette Pulliam, and Stephanie Phillips - who stood by her with love and strength.

Queen was preceded in death by her father, Howard Bottoms; siblings, Carl Tucker and Debora Starke; nephew, Sean Buford; mother-in-law, Gloria Prescott-Clarke; sister-in-law, Tanya Simmons; brother-in-law, Ferman "Mingo" Clarke; aunts, Ruby Moore and Mary Glover (Latcher); and her uncles, Jerimiah Tucker, Samuel Tucker (Costella), David Tucker, and Moses Tucker.

Left to cherish her memory and continue her legacy of love are: her loving and devoted husband, Javier Simmons, Sr.; beloved mother, Martha Dabney (Wayne); children, the apple of her eye, Marquell Tucker, Sr. (Taccarri), her doll baby, Ashley Johnson (PJ), Brenda Simmons, Javier Simmons, Jr. (Shatauya), Marchello Simmons (Latrice), and Kevin Simmons (Angelica); and her cherished niece raised as a daughter, Amonie Stith. She also leaves behind eighteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren of whom each one a treasured extension of her. Whether by birth or by bond, she embraced them all with the same fierce, unconditional love, proudly claiming each as her own and pouring into them the joy, wisdom, and warmth that only a MiMa could give.

Queen also leaves behind her siblings, Gwendolyn Lundy and James Tucker (Gina); her uncle and aunt, Joseph Tucker (Linda) and Anna Tucker; her sisters- in law, Cartinia "Nelly" Clarke and Eloina "Shelia" Clarke, amongst them devoted, Renaé Herriott (Albert), whom she loved so much; a host of nieces and nephews, each of whom she loved with all her heart. Every one of them shared a unique and special bond with their "Aunt Avis," a name they called her with affection and pride. Two who remained especially devoted to her were Chere Lundy and Charde Summers, who stood by her with unwavering love and support.

While Queen was loved by everyone she came in contact with, she shared special lifelong friendships that meant the world to her. Her devoted circle of friends included: Theresa Pendleton, Karen Woodley, Robin Jones (Moses), Trina Mason, Myoushi Allen, Vickie Nixon, and Ruth Bonner-Simpson. Among them, Theresa held a sacred place in her heart - their bond was unbreakable and a true display of genuine friendship that stood the test of time. She also shared an irreplaceable relationship with her beloved cousin Karen, whom she loved dearly. Whether they were on the phone sharing recipes or gathering together in laughter, Queen adored her cousin.

To know Queen was to love her. Her voice brought joy, her laughter lit up rooms, and her heart had no limits. Whether you knew her as a wife, mother, sister, MiMa, or friend - Queen was royalty in love, spirit, and soul.

We will forever carry her in our hearts and honor her with the same love she gave so freely to us all.
