Paul H.
Walker
Feb 4, 1938 — Jul 8, 2026
With profound love and gratitude for a life well lived, we celebrate the life and legacy of Paul Hamilton Walker, who peacefully departed this life on July 8, 2026.
Paul was born on February 4, 1938, in Sussex County, Virginia, to Willie Alexander Walker and Ora Pauline Harrison Walker. Raised in Waverly, Virginia, he attended and graduated from Sussex County Training School, where he developed the values of hard work, perseverance, and integrity that would guide him throughout his life.
Following graduation, Paul enrolled at Virginia State University, where he pursued higher education until answering the call to serve his country. He was drafted into the United States Army, serving with honor for six years, including two years of active duty and four years in the Army Reserves. His military service reflected his lifelong commitment to duty and service.
After completing his military service, Paul moved to New York City where he continued his education, ultimately earning a Bachelor of Science degree from New York Institute of Technology, demonstrating his unwavering belief in the value of education and personal growth.
While living in New York City, Paul met the love of his life, Marian Jenkins. Their friendship blossomed into a lifelong partnership, and they were united in marriage on June 17, 1967. Together they built a beautiful life in Co-op City, Bronx, New York, where they welcomed their beloved daughter, Felicia Rochelle Walker.
Paul dedicated more than two decades of his life to public service. He began his career with the New York City Department of Correction as a Correction Officer. Through hard work, professionalism, and exceptional leadership, he rose through the ranks and was promoted to the position of Captain. After 20 years of distinguished service, he retired, leaving behind a respected legacy of integrity and leadership.
Retirement did not slow Paul down. He continued serving his community by working as a Legal Aide at the Bronx Criminal Courthouse for nine years before retiring once again.
Following his second retirement, Paul and Marian returned to Virginia and made their home in Petersburg, where they became active members of First Baptist Church. Paul faithfully served in the Men's Chorus, finding great joy in worship and fellowship.
Outside of work and church, Paul embraced life with enthusiasm. He was an avid softball player who proudly competed in the annual tournaments with the Warriors. A devoted sports fan, he rarely missed the excitement of the CIAA Basketball Tournament in Charlotte, North Carolina, or the cherished tradition of attending Virginia State University Homecoming football games.
One of Paul's greatest passions was traveling. He and Marian created countless treasured memories exploring cities across the United States, cruising to beautiful destinations around the world, and experiencing different cultures together. Yet no matter where his travels took him, nothing brought him greater happiness than returning home to Virginia to spend time with family. His love for family remained the foundation of his life.
He leaves to cherish his precious memory his devoted wife of 59 years, Marian Walker; his loving daughter, Felicia Rochelle Walker; his siblings, William Bolling Walker, Gloria Gaston, and Francis Chapman; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, dear friends, church family, and all whose lives were enriched by knowing him.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Alexander Walker and Ora Pauline Harrison Walker; and his beloved siblings: Horrace Walker, Theresa Hines, Pauline Curry, Pecolar Hamlin, Irma Pryor, Nellie Bullock, and Louise Westbrook.
Paul will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, loyal friend, respected leader, faithful servant, proud veteran, and man of unwavering character. His quiet strength, gentle spirit, wisdom, infectious smile, and steadfast love for God and family touched countless lives.
Though he has departed this earthly life, his legacy of service, faith, love, and dignity will continue to inspire all who knew him.
