Paul Martin Compton, 81, of Prince George, Virginia passed away at HCA Virginia Chippenham Hospital on July 23, 2026. He was born in Pulaski County, Virginia on May 11, 1945. His parents, J. L. Compton and Lena Chafin Compton preceded him in death.

Paul is survived by his wife of 62 years, Susan Smith Compton; son, Chris, of Atlanta, Georgia; daughter, Mary Beth Matthews (Wayne), of Tularosa, New Mexico; sister, Carolyn Houser (LeRoy) of North Chesterfield, Virginia; brother, Mark Compton of Rio Rancho, New Mexico; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and their spouses; five grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and six great grandchildren that he adored.

Paul graduated from Hopewell High School, Class of 1964 and Virginia Commonwealth University, cum laude, in 1974. He earned his CPA license in 1981, and for For forty years, Paul owned and operated "Paul M. Compton, C.P.A." in Hopewell, VA, before retiring in 2022.

He enjoyed duck hunting, photography, bird watching, hybridizing daylilies, and many other hobbies throughout his lifetime.

The main focus of Paul's life was his family, who affectionately referred to him as "Pop". His kind nature and love for family and friends will live on forever as he rests in the love and safety of Jesus.
