Nancye N.
Champ "Nan"
Sep 26, 1944 — May 23, 2026
Nancye Naomi Champ, affectionately known as "Nan", 81, received her glorious angel wings on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at Petersburg Healthcare Center, Petersburg, Virginia. She was born in Middlesex, Virginia, on September 26, 1944, to the late Arthur W. Macon, Sr., and Shirley "Lena" King Robinson, and lovingly adopted and raised by James T. Robinson (JT) and Shirley "Lena" Robinson. Sometime later in her youth, the family moved to West Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Nancye attended Philadelphia Public Schools, and she paved her way through Penn State University.
Nancye accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Sharon Baptist Church, Philadelphia. There, she enjoyed sharing her gift of singing in the choir for many years. After moving back home to Chester, Virginia, she became a dedicated member of Zion Baptist Church in Petersburg, Virginia, in 2008 and served on the following ministries: J.E. Brown Memorial Choir, Pulpit Aid Society, and Zion Baptist Church School.
The love Nancye gave to others came at no charge and was the ultimate blessing in return. She had a heart for teaching and a love for helping those in need. In the late 1980s, Nancye devoted her time to volunteering and helping her community. She was an active member of the local NAACP, volunteering and organizing community events. As a Special Education (SPED) teacher at Thomas Mifflin School, Nancye was repeatedly honored for her service as an educator, showing endless joy as she inspired children with learning disabilities to succeed from 1988 until her retirement in 1996.
In her leisure time, Nancye loved reading, puzzles, hosting friends, listening to Gospels, "Old School" and jazz music, gardening, watching The Price is Right, soap operas, home cooking, and making sweet tea.
Nancye was married to the love of her life Harry R. Champ on August 29, 1975 until his untimely passing.
Nancye's leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Shirlena Boyer of Colorado; granddaughter, Jaenelle Nolan of Colorado; siblings, Stella Osbourne (Walt) of New Jersey, Deborah Pratt of Middlesex, Virginia, Joan Macon of Newport News, Virginia, Clementine "Joyce" Macon of Gloucester, Virginia, Arthur W. Macon, Jr. (Shell) of Chester, Virginia, Sandy Macon of Olympia, Washington and Linda Macon of Gloucester, Virginia; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, a devoted church family, and a few lifelong friends whom mourn her loss. She also leaves behind one very special lifelong friend known as "Sunny."
Nancye was predeceased by her husband, Harry; her parents, Arthur Sr., Lena, and JT; her siblings, Earl Macon, Sandra Macon, Jean Robinson, Arabella Neal, Gertrude Nichols, and Belton ("Jack") Robinson.
