"Well done, thou good and faithful servant… enter thou into the joy of thy lord."
— Matthew 25:23 (KJV)

With heartfelt love and gratitude for a life well lived, we celebrate the life and legacy of Mother Annie Ruth Washington, who peacefully transitioned on March 23, 2026, at Johnston-Willis Hospital, at the age of 92.

Annie was born on November 15, 1933, in Jarratt, Virginia, where she was educated in the Jarratt Public School system. From an early age, she developed a strong foundation of faith that remained the cornerstone of her life. She loved the Lord with all her heart and was a devoted and faithful member of Calvary Temple Church in Petersburg, Virginia.

Annie was united in holy matrimony to the love of her life, James Washington, and together they shared 60 beautiful years of marriage. Through life's journey, she was blessed with three children: Gerald Brown (Benita) Petersburg, VA, James Brown (Ramona), and Ronald Washington (Wenonah) both of Chesterfield, VA. Together, they built a beautiful life rooted in love, family, and unwavering commitment, residing in Ettrick, Virginia.

A woman of many gifts, Annie Ruth was a talented and passionate hairstylist. She owned and operated her own salon and later welcomed clients into her home, where she continued her craft for many years. Through her work, she not only styled hair but also built lasting relationships and touched many lives.

Annie found her greatest joy in her family. She cherished every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, creating memories that will live on for generations. She especially enjoyed Saturday outings to the flea market with her husband and grandchildren, Kayla and Kierra—simple moments that brought her immense happiness.

Annie was known for her bold spirit, unwavering faith, and deep love for the Lord. She was not shy about her beliefs and made it her mission to ensure that her family knew God for themselves. Whether through her words, her prayers, or the way she lived her life, she consistently pointed others toward faith. Her presence was strong, her love was intentional, and her legacy of faith will continue to guide generations to come.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Washington; her parents, Hattie and Lawrence Mason; her siblings: Thomas and Walter Myrick, Virginia Taylor, Lawrence Mason, Albert Lee Mason, Shirley Wiggins, Fred "Freddie" Mason, Jesse "Ike" Mason, and Richard Mason and grandson Tyree Lamont Brown.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories her loving children and their spouses; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, James "Jinks" Mason of Jarratt, VA; devoted sisters, Dorothy Harris (Richard) of Chester, VA; and Christine Petticolas (Augustus) of Forest, VA;  loving and devoted niece, Hillary Crowell (Lee) of Dinwiddie, VA; extended family; and a host of friends whose lives were forever touched by her strength and faith.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff and nurses of Lucy Corr Assisted Living Facility in Chester, Virginia, for their compassionate care and support.
