Minister Deonté
F. Grandison-King
Jan 6, 2001 — May 3, 2026
On May 3, 2026, our hearts were saddened by the passing of our beloved Minister Deonté F. Grandison-King. He was born on January 6, 2001, to Daniel F. King and Wyouka R. Grandison.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his older brother, Damien Grandison; his maternal grandparents, Woodrow Grandison, Sr. and Veronica Grandison; and his paternal grandfathers, James Scott and Lewis King, all of whom welcomed him home with open arms.
Deonté attended Petersburg High School and was a proud member of the Class of 2020. He was presently attending D.P Edward's Christian Leadership school pursuing Christian Education degree. He also attended John Tyler Community College for two years, where he studied music. On August 11, 2024, he was licensed to preach the Gospel Ministry by Dr. Kassandra Bullock.
He faithfully served and worshipped at Third Baptist Church, where he loved being involved with his church family and growing in his faith. Deonté had a joyful spirit and a heart full of love. He enjoyed singing, playing the piano, spending time with family, attending church activities, eating good food, and simply having fun with the people he loved most. His smile, kindness, and uplifting presence touched countless lives.
He leaves to cherish his loving memory his devoted grandmother, Gloria Walker (Phillip); great-grandmother Lucy Peebles; devoted aunts, Kendayshia (Torelle) and Valencia; great aunt Linda "Lynn" Grandison; devoted uncle, Woodrow Grandison, Jr. (Shimera); brother, Daquan King (Donjana); sister, Destiny King (Jarrell); and the cousins/children whom he loved as his own, Se'Miyahh Vaughan, Kaye'Veon Walker, Torrionna Wilkins, and Zaye'Marion Wilkins. He also leaves behind his beloved fiancée, Shakira Gilchrist, lovingly known as "ButterCup"; devoted big brother/cousin, Tevon Stith; best friend and brother in Christ, Rev. Rashaun Hill; along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, church family, and dear friends who will forever treasure the love and memories he shared.
Special thanks are extended to VCU Health Medical Center, the ACHD Team, Fresenius Kidney Care, and all of the doctors and medical staff who cared for him throughout the years.
Though his earthly journey was short, the impact Deonté made will live on forever in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always.
