Obituary

"Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise: be thankful unto Him, and bless His name" ~Psalm 100:4

We, the family of Michael Reine Davis, would like to praise and give thanks to the Almighty God for blessing us with Michael and for the beautiful memories He has allowed us to cherish in our hearts.

Michael, age 66, a child of God, devoted husband and father, brother, uncle, mentor, and friend, went home to be with the Lord peacefully on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, surrounded by his loving family and the love and prayers of the saints, in the Sarah Cannon Cancer Institute at Johnston-Willis Hospital, Richmond, Virginia.

Michael was born to Will Davis, Jr. and the late Laura (Jackson) Davis on December 18, 1959, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. On February 18, 1979, his father remarried the late Louise Minnie (Martin).

After graduating from Petersburg High School in 1978, he left his childhood home (1616 North Valor Drive) and served his country in the United States Army from 1978 to 1982.

He earned a Bachelor of Science in Physics, specializing in LASER science, from Virginia State University in Petersburg, Virginia, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. He also earned a Master of Science in Physics, concentrating in condensed matter physics (MuSR—magnetic and material properties at the atomic level) from Virginia State University, and a Ph.D. education, where he studied physiology and biophysics at the Medical College of Virginia at Virginia Commonwealth University (MCV/VCU).

Michael was the epitome of technology and science professors, an excellent technical coach and mentor, a beloved friend to his co-workers and colleagues, and a personal brother to some. He was an United States Army veteran specializing in electronics and missile technologies. He transitioned into an entirely different industry of Information Technology (IT) and became a consummate professional as he acquired an impressive and prolific list of diverse certifications and work experience in government and commercial enterprises spanning virtualization technologies, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, storage area network technologies, enterprise design, solutions architecture, and systems architecture and engineering methodologies.

Michael has made an incredible, indelible impact on the lives of his professional colleagues, his wife, his children, and personal friends who will always be grateful for his contributions to the Academy of Sciences and for the implementation of state-of-the-art technologies in various government and commercial domains. His accolades and resume speak volumes.

In addition to his educational and employment efforts, his innumerable contributions and care for his family and friends are stellar and honorable.

Michael had a great desire to pass on what he had learned to others because he believed it would give them opportunities to get jobs.

There was never a time when you would not find Michael building a computer for someone or some organization and even giving them the tools and hardware to build their own computer at no cost. Helping others gave him joy.

We thank God for Michael's life shining onto ours, and we will cherish the memories and knowledge that he, our technical guru and brother, has imparted to us.

Michael will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, April Davis, of 36 years and his seven precious children whom the Lord has blessed them with: Haile (Tom) Sequin, Michael, Aaron, Jonathan, Noah, Hannah, and Benjamin. His legacy will be cherished by his father, Will Davis, Jr., and his siblings, Shari Wise and Patrick Davis (Henrietta), Bobby Martin (Barbara), Loretta "Cookie" Martin, Alexander Martin, and Jacqueline Black; his extended family: his mother-in-law, Shirley Snead; his sisters-in-law, Zina Finley (Cecil) and Kim Mason (Michael); his brothers-in-law, Dwan Jackson (Azuna), Dana Jackson and Troy Jackson; his nephews and nieces, Royal Winters (William), Rodney Wise, Carmen Davis, Durell Davis, Devon Brownlee, Manville Williams, James Martin, Loretta Martin (Jerone), Tanika Martin, Jazzmine Black, Christine Donald, Destiny Pitt (Napoleon), Kareem Finley, Michael Mason (Keyana), Ashley Mason, Stephany Jackson, Tiffany Jackson, Alexis Jackson, Danae Jackson, and a host of family and friends.

Michael was preceded in death by his brother, Enrico Martin; nephew, Maurice Wise; niece, Brittini Black; aunts, Doris Griffin and Ora Bell; and his uncle, O.D. Davis.
