Michael "Ray" McCullen, 71, passed away on November 10, 2025. He was born on August 4, 1954, and lived a life marked by curiosity, kindness, and quiet strength. Ray was a devoted member of the Worldwide Church of God, where he found fellowship, purpose, and enduring friendships. His gentle spirit and thoughtful nature left a lasting impact on all who knew him.

A lifelong lover of strategy and imagination, Ray enjoyed the worlds he found in chess and comic books. Whether concentrating over a chessboard or discussing a favorite issue, he shared his passions with enthusiasm and light. He also enjoyed seeking the water and nature
for peace and comfort.

Ray was preceded in death by his father, Edwin McCullen; his mother, Barbara McCullen; and his brother, Roy McCullen. He is remembered by his daughter, Leslee Key; and his grandchildren, Brenna Key and Henry Key, who were the great joys of his life. He is also remembered by his sister-in-law, Susan McCullen; and his nephews–Shawn McCullen, Adam McCullen, and Brandon McCullen–who shared his wisdom, humor, and gentle guidance.

Ray's presence will be deeply missed, but the love he gave and the memories he created will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends. May he rest in peace.

A memorial service will be held at 5:00 P.M., Saturday, November 29, 2025, in the Chapel of J. M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment, Inc., 102 South Avenue, Petersburg, VA.
