Marvin Urquhart,
Iv “Boola Boola”
Aug 16, 1980 — May 2, 2026
With profound sadness and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Marvin Urquhart IV, affectionately known as "Boola Boola" and "Snoop Dog", who departed this life on May 2, 2026. Marvin was born on August 16, 1980, in Petersburg, Virginia, to Marvin Urquhart III and the late Wilma Jones.
Marvin was raised in Chesapeake, Virginia, where he attended Western Branch High School and graduated with the Class of 1999. During his time there, he became a legendary athlete, excelling in football, wrestling, and track and field. Proudly wearing jersey #44, Marvin earned statewide recognition as a heavyweight three-time Virginia State Wrestling Champion — a record that remains unmatched. In his senior year, he also captured a State Championship Award in the discus throw, further showcasing his remarkable athletic ability and dedication.
Marvin's impact on Western Branch extended far beyond competition. His leadership, determination, and sportsmanship left a lasting impression on his school and community. In honor of his achievements and legacy, his jersey was retired following his final year of high school and was recently presented to Marvin Urquhart III as a cherished and meaningful keepsake.
Following high school, Marvin attended Virginia Tech University, where he continued his education and proudly graduated in 2003 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Project Management. He remained a proud Hokie throughout his life.
After college, Marvin made his home in the Washington, DC area, where he worked in project management and became widely known for his work as a respected security professional and bouncer at numerous clubs throughout the city. Marvin was admired not only for his commanding presence and fierce protection of others, but also for the calm, humble, and personable spirit he carried everywhere he went.
To know Marvin was to know laughter, loyalty, and love. He was witty, charismatic, and had a natural ability to make people feel safe and welcomed. He often helped people in need. Though he possessed the strength of a protector, he also carried a gentle heart and a humble spirit that touched everyone around him. He enjoyed family gatherings, cherished time with loved ones, and was known as a true foodie who never turned down a great meal. Marvin was also a devoted fan of the San Francisco 49ers and loved sports throughout his life.
Marvin leaves behind several individuals who will cherish his memory: his loving father, Marvin Urquhart III of Chesapeake, Virginia; his devoted stepmother, Nathalie Urquhart of Chesapeake, Virginia; one beloved sister, Ms. Brandi Urquhart of Richmond, Virginia; two brothers, Mr. William "Peteman" Johnson of Charles City, Virginia, and Mr. Brandon Jones of Petersburg, Virginia; his significant other Sha'la Freeman; along with a host of loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were forever touched by his presence.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Wilma Johnson-Jones; his brother, Marcus Urquhart; his paternal grandmother, Evangelist Joan Wyche; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert and Leora Hines; his maternal grandparents, MSG Marvin and Carrie Urquhart, Jr.; and paternal great grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin and Perean Urquhart Sr; aunts, Mrs. Gwendolyn Price and Ms. Brenda Johnson; and his uncles, Mr. George Garrett, Mr. Wilbert Hines and Mr. Raymond Johnson.
Though Marvin's time with us was far too short, the impact of his life will remain everlasting. He was a fierce protector, a loyal friend, a beloved son and brother, and a man whose spirit could light up any room.
Thank you, God for loaning him to US! His memory will live on and be cherished in our hearts forever.
Rest peacefully, Marvin "Boola Boola" Urquhart IV.
