Martin Lorenzo Epps "Foot"

Mr. Martin Lorenzo Epps, 52, affectionately known as “Foot,” of Petersburg, Virginia, departed this life suddenly on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at his residence. Martin was a beloved father, son, brother, grandfather, and friend whose life and memory will forever be cherished by those who knew and loved him.

Martin was born on December 19, 1973, in Petersburg, Virginia, to Sarah Epps and the late Hugh Butts. He attended Petersburg Public Schools and worked numerous jobs throughout Virginia and North Carolina. However, Martin’s true calling was always the time he spent working, building, and creating alongside his brother. Those moments reflected the importance he placed on family and the bonds he shared with those closest to him.

Martin was known for his fun-loving personality and his ability to bring life to any gathering. He will be remembered for his smile, his laughter, his party spirit, and the memories he created with family and friends. His presence could brighten a room, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He was preceded in death by his father, Hugh Butts, as well as his grandfather, Willie Jones, and grandmothers, Mamie Jones and Creasy L. Butts.

Foot’s memory will forever be cherished by his son, Martinez Scott (Bryana); his daughters, Martiana and Martierane Epps; and his grandchildren, Bryson and Mielle Scott.

He also leaves to cherish his memory his sisters, Bernadette Thomasson (Charles) and Audrey Jones-Winfield (Joseph); his brothers, Maurice Epps, Robert Epps (Angela), Hugh Epps, and Timothy; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and dear friends.

Foot will truly be missed for his fun-loving and lively spirit. We will miss his smile, his laughter, and the joy he brought into our lives. Though gone from our sight, he will never be forgotten. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. We will always love you, Foot.

A memorial service will be held 1:00 P.M., Saturday, October 10, 2026, in the Chapel of J. M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment, Inc., 102 South Avenue, Petersburg, VA, the Rev. Michael Jones, eulogist.
