Obituary

It is with deep love and cherished memories that we announce the passing of Mr. Martin Dennis, who departed this life on Tuesday afternoon, June 17, 2025, at HCA TriCities Hospital, Hopewell, VA. A devoted Christian, brother, uncle, friend, and worker, Martin's life was a reflection of hard work, dedication and unwavering faith. A lifelong member of First Baptist Church Disputanta, he was a tireless, dependable and loyal worker for his church and community. His faith was his passion and service was his duty.

At the time of his passing, Martin resided with his sister, Mrs. Mable D. Thomas and nephew Anthony Dennis, where he spent his last days under their care. A retiree of Ashland, Inc. (formerly Hercules/Aqualon), Martin was an avid sportsman and gardener. It's well known that he enjoyed sharing the bounty of his harvest with friends and strangers alike, expecting nothing in return. He loved fishing, hunting, and sports. He participated in numerous baseball leagues in his youth, as well as singing groups.

Martin was preceded in death by his parents, Mrs. Annie L. Dennis and Deacon Eddie Dennis; two sisters, Ms. Lelia Harville and Mrs. Alma Lee Gilchrist; and four brothers, Mr. Charlie Dennis, Mr. Roosevelt Dennis, and Mr. Joseph Dennis, all of Disputanta, VA.

Martin leaves to cherish his memories his former wife, Ms. Mildred "Bea" Goodwyn; former wife, Ms. Elsie "Mae" Dennis; stepson, Mr. Reginald "Reggie" Mason; three sisters, Mrs. Annie L. Jackson, Ms. Viola Dennis, and Mrs. Mable D. Thomas; two brothers, Mr. Herbert Dennis and Mr. John Dennis; a host of nieces, among them devoted nieces, Ms. Hester Bradley, Mrs. Carla A. Campbell, and Ms. Jean Goolsby; a host of nephews, among them, devoted nephews, Mr. Calvin Gilchrist, Mr. Shirlon Saunders, Mr. Stewart Goodwyn, and Mr. Labree E. Thomas; a host of other family, relatives, and friends, among them, Deaconess Sheila Johnson who visited him during his convalescence, and Rev. Dr. Sylvia Tucker and Mrs. Patricia Stanislaus, who were always a beacon of comfort and joy during his transition.
