Marie J. Nelson

Marie Jacqueline Nelson, born on January 10, 1941, is lovingly remembered for her profound faith, generous spirit, and the joy she imparted to family and friends. She grew up in Port-au-Prince and Jacmail, Haiti, and proudly carried her Haitian heritage throughout her life. She was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Camelia Jean Michel; her husband, Kinchenord Nelson; and her dear siblings, Amalia, Ramene, Asenat, and Mercidieu.

Marie began her career at Abraham & Strauss Department Store and later retired from Macy’s. A devoted follower of the Lord, she attended Holy Cross Catholic Church, where she found strength and joy in her faith and later attended services at Second Baptist Church in Chester Virginia. Her passions included cooking, traveling, attending church, and gathering with loved ones. She played a significant role in raising many nieces and nephews, welcoming all into her life with warmth and kindness. In her presence, no one felt like a stranger; everyone was treated as family.

Her compassion shone brightly during the two years she dedicated to caring for her daughter-in-law during her battle with cancer, exemplifying her selfless love and commitment to family.

Marie was also known for her laughter and sense of fun. She cherished spending time with children, often joining in to imitate their latest dance moves. Affectionately dubbed the "Domino and Bingo Queen" by her family, she enjoyed friendly competition and the cherished memories created around the table.

Her family includes her son, Joel Jean, and his wife, Melissa Jean; her daughter, Kingslande Nelson Florvil; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many dear friends. Each of these individuals holds treasured memories of her love, encouragement, and welcoming spirit.

Marie’s life was characterized by faith, kindness, generosity, and joy. Her love and laughter will resonate in the hearts of those she touched, and her legacy will continue through the generations of her family.

“Well done, thou good and faithful servant.” - Matthew 25:21 (KJV)
