Margaret Dabney, age 80, of Sumter, SC, transitioned on August 28, 2026. She was born on August 23, 1946 in Sumter, SC to Jeanette “Coochie” Addison and David Lee “Boot” Addison.
She paved the way for multiple generations, by working in fields after school from a very young age. She had a career in the restaurant industry for twenty years. She moved on to the immense responsibility of a daycare employee and cared for each child as they were her own. She created and nurtured the village it takes to raise a child. Her children and grandchildren had the honor of her guidance and support with their children as well.
She left a legacy of prayer, service, and resilience. She dedicated her life to serving, whether that was to her family or her church home. She played a key role in the spiritual protection of her entire family. She was the humble owner of two homes, instilling belief of this grand achievement to multiple generations after her.
She is survived by her children, Sandra Mcknight, Pamela Mcknight, and Sherman “Big Boy” Huggins (nephew/son); her grandchildren, Jasmine “Lady” Johnson, Kortney “Coke” McDonald (Chad McDonald), Rikardo “Riko” Robinson, Arron “Tre’ “ Dabney (Adriana Dabney), Erika “Ej” Addison, and Darrell “Mule” Reid; her great-grandchildren, Collin Bracey, Jordyn “Joy-Joy” McDonald, Journi “Journ” Anderson, Katalina “Kat” Dabney, Kaylee Dabney, Glacier “Glace” Porter, Legacy “Leggy” McDonald, and Ariella Dabney; and her multiple nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her spouses, Johnson “Stack” McKnight Jr. and Louis Dabney; her children, Charles Addison and Joyce Addison; her grandchild, Jade Sullivan; and her siblings, Eleanor Parrott, David “Buster” Addison, Jerry Addison, Thelma “Munchie” Huggins.
She wished to be remembered by an intimate family gathering. She will be forever appreciated and loved.
