Marc A.
Chambliss "Tony"
Apr 26, 1957 — May 18, 2026
Marc A. Chambliss, affectionately known as "Tony," departed this life on May 18, 2026, at the age of 69.
Born and raised in Petersburg, Virginia, Tony was deeply rooted in the community he called home. He attended Petersburg City Schools and later graduated from Virginia State University. Throughout his life, he carried himself with determination, pride, and a strong work ethic that earned the respect of many.
Tony dedicated years of service to the City of Petersburg, first working in the Petersburg City Police garage and later retiring from the Petersburg City Schools bus garage. He took pride in his work and believed in the value of showing up, working hard, and providing for his family.
Known for being hardworking, loving, and tenacious in the way only those closest to him understood, Tony left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered. His strength and unwavering spirit were matched by his deep love for family and the simple moments that brought him joy.
Tony had a passion for drag racing and enjoyed spending time at Dinwiddie Motorsports Park, where he formed lasting bonds within the racing community. He also enjoyed conversations and fellowship at Bates Service Station and could often be found working in his garage, where he was most at home—hands busy, mind focused, and surrounded by the things he loved. Whether talking cars, sharing stories, or offering advice, Tony created connections that will not be forgotten.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Chambliss; his beloved grandson, Jasir Wood; and in-laws, Frank and Geraldine Coleman.
Tony leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Cheryl Chambliss; his loving mother, Ethel Chambliss; his children, Shante Wood (Murray), Marc Chambliss II, and Lyndsey Fields, who later joined their home; his cherished grandchildren, Giselle Wood, Amani Love, and Jayvien Wood; his brothers, Charles Chambliss Jr., Leo Chambliss(Lilian), Robert Chambliss (Linda), and David Chambliss (Sherril); and his brothers-in-law, Bernard Coleman (Cheryl) and Edward Coleman; and the family dog, Jag.
He also leaves behind a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, members of the racing community, and dear friends whose lives were touched by his presence, wisdom, humor, and unwavering spirit.
Tony's legacy is one of hard work, love, loyalty, and perseverance. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will continue to live on through the stories shared, the lessons taught, and the love he poured into those fortunate enough to know him.
