Lorenzo L.
Chandler
Sep 20, 1970 — Jul 3, 2026
On September 20, 1970, God blessed the world with the life of Lorenzo Leroy Chandler. On July 3, 2026, he peacefully departed this life at Bon Secours Southside Medical Center in Petersburg, Virginia, leaving behind a legacy of love, perseverance, laughter, and unwavering devotion to family and friends.
Lorenzo was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Olivia Chandler; his father, Samuel M. Williams, Jr.; his grandfather, James "Jake" Campbell; his grandmother, Irma Jones; his aunts, Mabel Jones and Magnolia Jones; and his uncles, Tony Jones, Leroy Jones, and Itarius Jones.
Lorenzo was a hardworking man who spent many years employed at Skeeter's, where he became known as one of the best fish cleaners on this side of the Appomattox. His strong work ethic and determination were evident in everything he did, and he was never afraid of hard work.
He had a passion for life and enjoyed the simple things that brought people together. Lorenzo loved sports, listening to oldies, rapping, fishing, and vacationing. He especially treasured time spent outdoors and making memories with those he loved.
A proud member of the community where he was raised, Lorenzo often said he was "36 for life," a reflection of the deep connection he held with his neighborhood and the people who shaped his life. He visited as often as possible and never stopped striving to become the best version of himself. Despite life's many challenges, Lorenzo remained resilient, refusing to give up and always pressing forward with strength and determination.
Family meant everything to Lorenzo. He spoke with his daughters daily—sometimes for hours—and cherished every opportunity to spend time with his grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends. Many weekends were spent with his Aunt Mickey, his cousin, Michelle, and family members, Anthony, Alex, Barbara, Adonis, Justin, and Latanya Williams, enjoying traveling, playing spades, singing karaoke, fishing, and simply being together. Lorenzo respected his elders, was always willing to hustle through side jobs to stay productive, and truly never met a stranger.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories: his daughters, Latonya Chandler and Tihesha Suber; grandchildren, Darnell Billups, Jr., Au'Yonni Starlene Suber, and Ava Joy Olivia King. He is also survived by his brothers, Samuel Chandler (Satydra), George R. Chandler, Jr. (Tamara), Alonzo Chandler, and Tyrone Chandler (Vernell); his sister, Tonya Carter; aunts, Starlene Beatrice Davis and Yvonne Jones; nieces, Samia Olivia Chandler, Samyra Olivia Chandler, Tekelia Chandler, Taniya Chandler, Ke'Asia Shelton, Taylor Browder and Caylee Stith; nephews, Samuel Eldridge, Brek Chandler, Kemuel Chandler, Kamren Chandler, Darrius Chandler, Jason Chandler, Kevin Chandler and Cedric Chandler; a host of cousins and close friends, notably including: Anthony Davis (Barbara), Michelle Gilchrist (Alexander), Audrey Winfield (Joseph), Priscilla Jones, Darlita Jones, Antoine Jones, Den Hargraves, Kevin Hargraves, Latanya Ampey, Leticia Suber, Kimberly Rainey, Raymond Davis, Tonia Jones, and Nicole Hargraves; and many other relatives and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
