Obituary

Linda Lyons Haskins, age 71, of Petersburg, VA, fell asleep in death on Saturday, October 25, 2025. She was born on November 4, 1953, in Petersburg, VA, to the late William and Christine Lyons.

Linda was educated in the Petersburg City Public School system. Following high school, she pursued various careers over the years. She worked as an Emergency Medical Technician, often serving as squad leader, a Mary Kay Consultant, a jewelry maker, and a Hair and Nail Salon owner.

She married Melvin on September 5, 1969, and together they shared fifty-six wonderful years of marriage. They were blessed with three children: Ursula, Kimberly, and Jeremy.

She made her dedication to Jehovah God in July of 1975. Over the years, she would be seen sharing her beliefs with others through the door-to-door ministry, bible studies, and other forms of preaching. She enjoyed regular pioneering for a time and aided others to make a similar dedication, creating lifelong bonds.

The name Linda primarily means "beautiful" or "pretty". This name fit Linda perfectly because she was beautiful on the inside and out. She built a beautiful life full of love, friendship, and meaning. She shared a special bond with her family and her many pets over the years.  She touched the lives of others through her warmth and generosity. She rarely got angry and was the type of person that anybody could talk to about anything with no judgement.

Linda loved to travel, and tropical destinations were always her favorite. She enjoyed camping in Virginia Beach, the Outer Banks, and eating seafood. Every year, she competed in the Monument Avenue 10k with her children. She was always ready to see new things and jump into new experiences. She truly believed she could do anything, could solve every problem, and never turned down a challenge. She will be missed and remembered by everyone who knew her and called her a friend.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Christine Lyons; brother, W. Reginald Randolph; sister, Bessie Flowers; and her daughter, Kimberly Haskins.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 56 years, Melvin; children, Ursula Hilton and Jeremy Haskins (Dana); granddaughter, Dominique Ripley (Torey); sister, Debra Grandison (Joseph); brothers-in-law, Pernell Charity (Nora), Myron Haskins (Dooreen) and Carroll Haskins (Cynthia); sister-in-law, Brenda Haskins; one uncle, Ernie Ricks of New York; special friends, Jean Harrison, Mary Brown, Gloria McCrae and Jeanette Sumler; daughter-in-love, Tracy Reid-Perry; many nieces, nephews, cousins, close friends, and a large spiritual family.
