Linda D.
Gray
May 31, 1955 — Apr 21, 2026
Linda Darnell Gray, 71, of Wakefield, Virginia, peacefully departed this life on April 21, 2026. She was born on May 31, 1955, to the late Mervin and Florine Morgan.
Linda spent the majority of her life in Wakefield, Virginia, where she built a legacy of love, strength, and unwavering dedication to her family and community. She attended Sussex County Public Schools until the 8th grade and, from a young age, took on the responsibility of caring for her father until his passing—a reflection of her nurturing and selfless spirit.
On June 9, 1974, Linda married the love of her life, Charles W. Gray. Together, they later joined Union Hill United Church of Christ, where Linda accepted Christ into her life and deepened her faith. In 1976, she became a proud member of the Eastern Star.
Linda was a very stern yet deeply caring woman. Her doors were never locked, and her table was never too full. She was a hard-working woman, employed for several years at Smithfield Packing Plant and later dedicating over 20 years of service to Fort Magruder Inn until her health declined in 2005.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. Gray; her daughter, Rita Gray Mason; her son, Charles A. Gray; and her parents, Mervin and Florine Morgan.
Linda leaves to cherish her precious memories: her loving daughter, Cecilia G. Holloman (Marcus Holloman); one devoted love child, Shannon Johnson (Erica Johnson); grandchildren DeAnthony Mason, Ronlesha Jones, Deandaz Gray, Ceashija Rawlings, and Darryl Rawlings Jr.; great-grandchildren Khalil Mason, Riley Seaborne, Karter Mason, and Rylan Seaborne; godsons Donte Stith and Amonte Turner; siblings Leroy Ellis (Vera Ellis), Barbara Hill, Diane Sumler, Mervin Ellis (Jeanne Ellis), and Evon White (Melvin M. White), along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Linda was like no other to so many. She could discipline you in one moment and love on you in the next. She bathed, clothed, and fed others with a heart full of compassion. Her legacy of love and strength will forever live on in all who knew her.
Services will be held 1:00 P.M., Thursday, April 30, 2026, at Oak Grove Baptist Church, 38070 Rocky Hock Road, Wakefield, VA, the Rev. Melvin Lyttle, Jr., Pastor and Rev. Tracy Manley, eulogist. The interment to follow at Booker T. Memorial Park.
