Obituary

On the morning of Monday, October 27, 2025, our hearts were saddened by the loss of our dear loved one and friend, Ms. Lillie Stewart Brown, affectionately known as "Ann" to her family and friends.

Lillie's life began on September 28,1954, in Petersburg, VA where she was born to her devoted mother, the late Lillie Mae Ryals and her father, Jack Stewart, Sr. She was raised in Petersburg, VA (Bunker Hill) where she attended Petersburg Public School System. She later relocated to South Chesterfield, VA (Ettrick) where she was employed at Virginia State University until her health declined.

Lillie will always be remembered for her kind and infectious heart. She loved telling stories about going to North Carolina and Baltimore during her summers growing up. Her kindness and compassion touched the lives of many, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She loved listening to old school music, watching her favorite shows, cooking, and spending time laughing, praying, and talking with her family.

Lillie leaves to cherish her memories: one loving daughter, Cherelle Brown of Rice, VA; grandchildren, Jayden, Brielle, Noelle, Tobias and Josiah; niece, Teresa L. Stewart of Baltimore, MD; nephew, Kevin Stewart of Baltimore, MD; great nieces, Tynesha Hudson of Baltimore, MD; close cousins, Lula Ryals Raines of Augusta, GA, Claudette Martin of Augusta, GA, Betty Horsey of Glen Burnie, MD and Mary Hicks of Erwin, NC; extended family to include: Deborah Sykes-Coleman and family,  Rebecca Mason and family, Claudia Turner and family, Judy Clay and family, Kyla McKensie and family; godchildren, Alyssa Coleman, Kenya Coleman, and Quaron Harris; and dear friends, Richetta Graves, Mamie Lancaster and Cynthia Lee.

Lillie was preceded in death by her parents; Frank Pettiford who was a devoted father figure in her life; brothers, Preston Stewart and Jack Stewart, Jr. (June); very dear cousins, Felicia Thompson and Nia Simmons; godbrothers, Greg Mason and Karl "Buck" Jones.

Though our hearts are heavy, we will truly miss all the special moments Ann brought into our lives and we will rejoice knowing she is now free from all hurt and pain and is now resting in God's arms. We will always carry her memory in our hearts.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the Staff of Central (PACE), her Nurse, Ms. Mabel and Central Lynchburg General Hospital.
