Lewis B.
Greene
Oct 25, 1942 — Mar 26, 2025
Mr. Lewis Benjamin Greene, affectionately known as "Papa Lew", went on to be with his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, in Chester, VA.
Lewis was born October 25, 1942, to the late Beatrice Greene and William Valentine. He attended Petersburg Public Schools and at the age of 17 enlisted in the United States Army. While serving, Lewis received his high school diploma. His military service allowed him to not only travel statewide but abroad as well. On September 6, 1973, Lewis married Rose Wyatt of Petersburg and together they raised 4 children while opening their home and hearts to so many more. After retiring from the United States Army, Lewis began a 16-year career at Honeywell Fiber in Chester. In 2005, he retired and took on a role that truly brought him so much joy, taking care of his first granddaughter, Rayven.
Papa Lew loved making sure that his home and yard looked amazing. If he wasn't outside caring for his yard, he was inside caring for his family, watching his Oakland Raiders, or ordering from Temu! He also enjoyed multiple weekly trips to Walmart, always saying he had some things to pick up. Lewis was a dedicated member of Mount Olivet Baptist Church, Petersburg, being baptized in 1979. One of his gifts and passions was serving on the Male Usher Board until his declining health.
In addition to his parents, Lewis was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife, Rose Greene; brother, James Green; sister, Yolanda Munford; mother-in-law, Mary Wyatt; father-in-law, Paul Moore, Sr.; brothers-in-law, Clyde Wyatt and Paul Moore, Jr.; and nephew, Charles A Green.
Lewis leaves to cherish his legacy: one son, William Pete of Petersburg, VA; three daughters, Shirley Rose of Texas, LaTasha Wyche of Petersburg, VA, and Kimberly Gregory of Chester, VA; one brother, Charles Green of Birmingham, AL; two sisters, Lucinda Sweat of Fayetteville, NC and Patricia Green of Petersburg, VA; one sister-in-law, Genieva Hall of Pittsburgh, PA; two brothers-in-law, Gerald Wyatt of Richmond, VA and Donald Moore (Venus) of Pittsburgh, PA; seven grandchildren, James Rose, Shamarie Rose, Travis Rose, Demario Peet, Rayven Blanks, Jayden Gregory and Victoria Rose Gregory; son-in-love, James Gregory; daughter-in-love, Donna Jackson; nieces, Syreeta Green, Debra Jones, Tracy Crawley (David), Antionette and Tiffany Sweat; nephews, DeMontay Munford and Raymond Munford; a host of family and friends, devoted James Hayes (Felicia) and William Chapman; godchildren, Teleea Mayes, Tonya Goode-Gilliam and Allison Bonner; The Hoke Drive family: Roderick, Brenda, DelBria and Ashleigh Walton, Barbara Trotter, Nikita and Mi Mi, the Putney family and Ms. Epps; the Mount Olivet Baptist Church family to include the Male Usher Ministry.
The family would like to thank the staff of Kirva Hospice Care, Lucy Corr Rehabilitation Center, Right at Home, and the many others who showed up, reached out and prayed for Papa Lew during his time of illness.
