On Wednesday, January 28, 2026, Ms. Laverne Denise Brown, 62, affectionately known as "Kitty", peacefully entered into eternal rest at her home.

Born March 31, 1963, in Portsmouth, Virginia, to Deacon George "Mike" and Nellie Mae Brown, she was the fourth of six children of that union. Reared in the Blandford neighborhood, she accepted Christ at an early age at Bethany Baptist Church.

She was a graduate of Petersburg High School Class of 1981. Following employment at Central State Hospital as a Developmental Aide, she worked several jobs before choosing to share her warm smile, bubbly personality and caring skills in home healthcare. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Laverne was predeceased by her parents; nephew, Michael W. Brown, Jr. and her cousin, John F. Roberts III "JJ".

Rejoicing in precious memories of her love is her son, Lavar; sister, Jamie, brothers, Michael (Suki) of Copperas Cove, Texas, Brian (Mary) of Aberdeen, Maryland, George "Cadillac" (Natalie), Todd (Pam) of Semmes, Alabama; nephews, Nathaniel Brown and Steven (Meriam); nieces, Tivona Lofton (Aaron) of Dothan, Alabama and Mae Alice; two aunts, Nadine Bland Roberts and Allison Bland Tucker; uncles, Robert Bruce Bland of Charlotte, Michigan, and Sidney Dabney Bland "Scotty" of Petersburg, Virginia; cousins, Patricia Edwards (Tim) of Quaker, Connecticut, William Zachary Savage, Jr. "Zack" (Clarissa) of Petersburg, Virginia, Rose Camm of Seaford, Virginia, Maria Glass of Newport News, Virginia, Kevin L. Myrick and Chante Roberts; devoted friends, Malinda Turner, Karen Jones, Doralen Wilkes-Branch; bonus family, The Causeys'-Doris, Jillian, Caleb and Joshua thank you so very much for your love and unwavering support; loving pet, Rex the Moucha; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Wednesday, Feburay 11, 2026, in the Chapel of J. M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment, Inc., 102 South Avenue, Petersburg, VA, the Rev. Dr. Phillip Williams, eulogist, the Rev. Allison Bland Tucker, officiant. The interment to follow at Wilkerson Memorial Cemetery.
