Obituary

Kinshasa A. Joyner affectionally known as "Bird", "Kika" or "Kika Bird" was born on May 14, 1983, to Anthony William Joyner & Helen (Joyner) Blanding in Richmond, Virginia. She was married to Shawn King.  Kinshasa transitioned to eternity peacefully on Thursday, January 15, 2026.

Kinshasa was educated in the Richmond City Public School system and graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in June of 2001. Kinshasa attended John C. Smith University in North Carolina, Virginia State University and later received an Associate's degree in accounting from Liberty University.  Kika's career path primarily consisted of roles within Accounts Payable and Payroll departments throughout several agencies within the State of Virginia; with her last place of employment at Virginia State University until 2023 when her health began to decline.

Early in life Kinshasa attended Sharon Baptist Church in Richmond, Virginia where she accepted Christ into heart and was baptized at the tender age of 13. Her final church home was TLB Outreach for Christ Ministries under the leadership Bishop Thomas L. Blanding located in Hopewell, Virginia where she was a faithful Tither, Sunday School Teacher and Financial Secretary from 2002 until 2023.

Kika was full of life, love and laughs, never missing an opportunity to put on a mini skit for the entertainment of others at the drop of a dime, often embodying the personality and charisma of her father.  Kinshasa enjoyed dancing, cooking, loved music and mixing oils just like Tony. She will always be remembered for her infectious smile and humorous personality, which we all often enjoyed.

Kika was preceded in death by her father, Anthony W. Joyner; her brother, Santo Antonio Heyward; her son, Isreal King; paternal grandparents, Audrey & Marvin Barrett, Clinton Joyner and Albert Trimble; her maternal grandparents, Freddie & Dorothy Wilkins; and her beloved cousin, Samantha Wilkins.

Kika leaves to cherish her memories: her mother, Helen Wilkins Blanding and stepfather Thomas L. Blanding; her step-grandmother, Betty Wilkins (Freddie); four children, Micah Chatman, Christian & Christopher Dew and Levi King; her siblings, Tonita Phillips (Bobby), Kimberly Joyner, Kala Threatt (Melanie), Akisha Threatt, Senithia Martin (Dennis), Shalonda Blanding, Namtasha Joyner, Jemell Ormond (Lorraine) and Tisha Blanding; two aunts, Melody Mitchell (James) Roxboro, NC and August Faith Waller Kingston, NC;  one uncle, Frankie Wilkins of Lynchburg, VA; eleven nieces and nephews, Devin), Khalil, Keenen, Jahni, Jahlen, Quinshawn Ross, Jr., McKenzie, Kamaria Ford, Janae, Jordyn, Dennis Jr., Jada, and Ezekiel; four very special friends, Roshawnda Hopson, Melonie Whitlock, Kayla Armstrong, and Shatabra Nolen; and host other loving and close cousins, other relatives, friends.
