Kenneth E.
"Nose" Jones
May 20, 1951 — Apr 26, 2025
Kenneth Earl Jones, affectionately called, "Nose," 73, of 1734 Powhatan Avenue, Petersburg, Virginia, departed this life on April 26, 2025, peacefully, surrounded by his devoted daughter Sha-Quita, grandkids, siblings and other family members at his residence. He was born on May 20, 1951, Fort Knox, Kentucky to the late Edward L. Jones, Sr. and Mrs. Doris Mickens Jones.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, Edward L. Jones, Sr. and Doris Mickens Jones; significant other, Barbara Jean Hargraves; sister, Gloria Jean Mickens; nephews, Steven Jones and Ken "Puss Chicken" Jones; and Virginia Greene the mother of his gift of love, Sha-Quita (Turkey).
Kenneth "Nose" was baptized at Bethany Baptist Church in Petersburg, Virginia. Kenneth went to the Job Corps at an early age. Upon returning to Virginia, he became an employee of Eastside Grill as a cook in the heart of Blandford. Kenneth went on to working for the City of Petersburg Utilities for 38 years as a backhoe driver. He worked that backhoe with pride and dignity. He loved his job and was a very dedicated and hard worker. Kenneth's only objective in life was to take care of his daughter so he worked hard to do just that.
He had a lot of talents including plumbing, painting, cooking in which his signature dishes were neckbones and potatoes, chicken and dumplings and fried potatoes like his sister Joyce taught him how to cook. His absolute favorite hobby was supporting the Virginia Lottery and if you knew Nose, you knew that his number is 109. 109 is his oldest grandson's birthday. Nose have been supporting the Virginia Lottery for 33 years!
Kenneth was a noble gentleman and scholar who went out of his way to help anyone in need. He would often get up early, go around the Blandford neighborhood to put out everyone's trash. There are a lot of countless and immeasurable things he did for others he cared about. Nose was a very special man, he didn't say a whole lot, but if you opened a conversation, you were guaranteed that he would know something or somebody because he would say, "Nose knows it all" and "Nose knows the world," and he wasn't lying. He knew a little bit about a lot of things. When you would come through Blandford, you are bound to see Nose strolling through the neighborhood with his clean white chuck taylors on and his sunshades smiling and speaking to everyone. Everyone knew him because he was a legend. The mayor of the Blandford Community. When you see Blandford, you see Nose.
He was very kind, soft-spoken and never complained. He loved his family but would go to the end of the earth for his daughter Sha-Quita.
Kenneth fell ill and relocated to live with his daughter who was devoted to being his caretaker with unwavering love. During this time, their bond became inseparable. They spent countless days reminiscing about old times, watching tv, laughing at the grandkids, and most of all dancing. He really knew how to dance.
During his relocation to his daughter's home, he encountered numerous neighbors who fell in love with him, especially his mailman. He shared a special place in his heart for his significant other, Barbara Jean and his nephew Ken "Puss Chicken" Jones. When they passed away, it really caused him to grieve deeply. He loved his nephew so much that he transitioned from his earthy home to his heavenly home on his nephew's birthday, April 26th. They had it all planned out, a great big celebration, they both made it to their eternal home.
Kenneth never met nor knew a stranger and used to say, "he knew the world." And he really did because everywhere we went people knew "Nose Jones."
Kenneth leaves his wonderful memories to his devoted daughter, Sha-Quita Chapman who was his caretaker and nurse, and devoted son-in-law, Michael Chapman; his bonus daughters he raised as his own, Nadine Robertson (Dennis), Marlyn Cottemond (Lawrence), and Romanda Greene-Baugh (Vernon); Tanya, Davina, and Tia Patterson; devoted grandchildren, Michael A. Greene and Na'Trone L. Greene; great grandchildren who were the apple of eyes, Michael Greene, Jr., Memphis Greene, and Mi'Len Greene. Kenneth also leaves to cherish his memories: two devoted sisters, Joyce Coley and Claudette McCord; devoted brothers, Edward L. Jones, Jr. (Sonya), Gilbert Jones, Wendell Jones, Curtis Johnson (Linda), Jeffrey Johnson (Pam), and Craig Johnson (Schawanda); nephews, Kevin Jones and Brian Coley (Miarka), Ryan Jones, Gerard Johnson (Courtney), Adrian and Austin Johnson, Damon, Jalen, and Tyrique Johnson; devoted niece, Crystal Tidwell; nieces, Sheryl Hancock, Tanya Walker (Lawrence), Jalessa McCord and Sheree Jones; numerous great-nephews and great-nieces; goddaughters, Terry Ellis and Lee Giles; special cousins, Lecolia Hill, Dorothy Smith and Brenda Jones; devoted friends, Mr. West-Bey, Danny and Myra Adams, Al Hubbard, Cal Raines, The Crawford-Bell Family, and a special lady, Michaele McKeever-Davis, a very devoted friend whom he held close to his heart as she would call him "Her Husband!"; special thanks to Eva Ridges for her continued support during my father's illness, VCU Hospice and his nurse, Lachandra Brody, Dr. Kai Heru Rama, for his spiritual and holistic wellness; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
Nose will forever be on our minds and live on in our hearts for the kindness and love he displayed constantly while here with us.
