Katherine Chambliss Hinton, 80, of Waverly, Virginia, peacefully transcended to her heavenly home on Monday, September 15, 2025. Katherine was born February 9, 1945, in Sussex County, Virginia, to the late Lewis and Annie Turner Chambliss of Waverly, Virginia. Katherine was a lifelong resident of Sussex County.  She attended Sussex County Public Schools.  At an early age she joined The Church of God Apostolic Faith of Waverly, Virginia, and later joined the Rose of Sharon Apostolic Church of Waverly, Virginia where she attended until her health declined.

She was preceded in death by her parents;  her siblings, Annie Mae Chambliss, Lewis Chambliss, Jr., Mary L. Williams, Muriel Joyner, and Ruth Ann Chambliss. Katherine met the love of her life, the late Walter Hinton, Sr. and they were married for over twenty-eight. Through this union they were blessed with one child.

Katherine was a homemaker and seamstress for many years which allowed her to stay home with her son. She was a quiet soul but believed in talking to her siblings and family members daily just to make sure everyone was okay.

Mourning her loss but cherishing her memories are her son, Walter Hinton, Jr. and grandchildren, Jazmine Hinton, Javayla Sloan, JaCaia Ellis, Craishawn Ellis, Keandra Booker and Sharita Brown. She is also survived by three sisters, Ethel Edmond (Lafayette), Ellen Massenberg and Janet Chambliss and one brother, Bernard Chambliss (Evelyn); sisters-in-law, Linda Brown (Raymond), Elma Hinton, and Ruth Hinton; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

I would like to thank all of the persons who provided support for mom during her time of illness

Services will be held 12 Noon, Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Rose of Sharon Apostolic Church, 438 Elm Street, Waverly, VA, Bishop Tyrone R. Harper, Sr., Pastor, eulogist and Bishop Shawn Lewis, officiating. The interment to follow at Waverly Cemetery.
