On Wednesday, December 10, 2025, God called home one of his angels, Mr. Joseph Gholson, Jr., affectionately known by so many as Uncle Joe or Smoky Uncle Joe was a man who would do anything to help anyone. He was born on March 10, 1950, to the late Joseph and Sylvia Tucker Gholson in Dinwiddie County, Virginia, he was a twin to his sister.

He was preceded in death by five sister, Mable Wilkerson, Melvina Jackson, Annie Parham, Marie Fells and Elizabeth Wiggins; and two brothers, James Gholson and Robinnett Gholson.

Joseph leaves to cherish his memories: his son, Marland Cook; his devoted twin sister, Josephine Gholson and Juanita Mason (Leonard); devoted brother, Ronette Gholson (Mary); sister-in-law, Nancy Gholson; a host of nieces and nephews too numerous to name; devoted friends, Edward Titmus, Gene Winfield, Bishop Larrie Bowers and Bishop John Thomas.

Services will be held 1:00 P.M., Saturday, December 27, 2025, in the Chapel of J. M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment, Inc., 102 South Avenue, Petersburg, VA. The interment to follow at Wilkerson Memorial Cemetery.
