John "O
Johnny” H. Dean
Aug 3, 1945 — Jun 5, 2025
John Dean, affectionately known as "O Johnny", by his baby sister Betty departed this life on Thursday, June 5, 2025, at Battlefield Park Healthcare Center, Petersburg, VA, where he resided from April 2019 to the day of his departure. John was born August 3, 1945, in Dinwiddie County, Virginia.
John was baptized at South Jefferson Street, Church of Christ in Petersburg Virginia. He was a labor worker from a youth to part of his adulthood. John lived a quiet and modest life. He enjoyed simple pleasures which were a meaningful part of his days. He loved hunting and fishing as well as watching drag racing.
"O Johnny" was a sharp dresser. He liked Stacy Adams shoes to match each outfit along with his matching Kango hats. He kept up with his receipts like they were love letters, because if there was one thing he didn't play about, it was his money. In his final days, Johnny loved to tease his siblings, Betty and Robert, often accusing the that they had run off with his million dollars. Now that he's gone, one thing's for sure: If there ever was a million dollars, Johnny took it with him!
He was preceded in death by his parents, Martha and Lacy Dean, Sr.; brother, Lacy Dean, Jr. (Brother); sisters, Luellen Johnson and Mary D. Granderson and his brother-in-law, Raynard Walker.
John leaves his surviving brothers, Robert Dean (Verlina), Ernest Dean, David Dean, Levi Dean and sister, Betty Walker; brother-in-law, James Granderson; and three sisters-in-law, Marie Dean, Verlina Dean, and Doris Dean. He is also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews and loved ones.
Special thanks to Battlefield Park's Nursing staff, James River Hospice Team, Edgehill Church of Christ family and a heartfelt thanks to J. M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment, Inc. for their services and kind deeds.
