John W.
Hill, Sr.
Jan 9, 1953 — Feb 22, 2026
On Sunday evening, February 22, 2026, our beloved brother, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend, John Wesley Hill, Sr., was called home.
John was born on January 9, 1953, in Sussex County, Virginia to the late Johnnie Hill and Mollie Robinson-Hill. He was the youngest of thirteen children, blessed with four older brothers and eight older sisters who helped shape the strong, loving man he became.
A faithful and devoted member of Petersburg Church of Christ in Petersburg, Virginia for over 50 years, John served diligently as a trustee and was a steady presence in his church family. His faith guided his life, and he remained committed to serving others with humility and compassion.
John was known for his incredible work ethics and dedication. He faithfully served more than thirty years at Honeywell, retiring in June 2004. During that time, he also volunteered with EMS at Enon Station 06, demonstrating his heart for helping others in times of need. Even after retirement, John remained active—providing lawn care services, working at a gas station, completing odd jobs, and later working at Virginia Motorsports Park in Dinwiddie, Virginia, until his health began to decline.
John was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, Dianna Hill; his brothers Leroy, Bill, Eddie and James; his sisters, Martha Ann, Annabelle, Rebecca and Mildred; one daughter, Latisha Rollie; and three grandchildren, Domonic, Mi'Kayla and Jazmine.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories his loving and devoted children: Juaning Williams, Dianna Williams, Melvennia Uzzle (Jimmie Jr.) and John Hill, Jr. (Natricia). He also leaves his loving sisters: Ann Mayfield, Gracie White, Beulah Prosise, and Elizabeth Paul (Earl).
John's legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren: Antonio Kelly, Juanita Kelley, Antoinette Kelley, Kallitha Malone, Devonte Williams, Monique Jones (Rashad), Gerjuan Williams, Reneese Williams (Devin), Cierra Mullins (Zach), Sasha Uzzle, Jimmie Uzzle III, Wesley Houston, Tyra Yeaman (Codey), Nicholas Hill, Nigel Hill, and Janiyah Charles-Rollie; and his adored great-grandchildren: Deshaun Malone, Zamiyah and Maleah Kelley, Ka'vion Chavis-Kelley, Khalani Kelley, Faith Moore, Justice Tubbs, A'shya Malone, Javon Holman, Imani Crawley, Jarod Crawley, Jr., Lauren Stovall, Olivia Mullins, Jamya Houston, and Phoenix Houston.
He also leaves behind a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, extended relatives, and dear friends. Special people in his life included Melinda Kelley-Gilliard and Debra Mason, along with many other treasured friends.
John will be remembered for his quiet strength, unwavering dedication to family, strong faith, and willingness to lend a helping hand. His life was a testament to hard work, perseverance, and love. Though he is no longer with us in body, his legacy of faith and family will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Services will be held 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at Petersburg Church of Christ, 234 N. South Street, Petersburg, VA, the Rev. Alonzo Overby, eulogist. The interment to follow at Wilkerson Memorial Cemetery.
