Joan Teann
Robinson
Nov 1, 1951 — Jan 14, 2026
Our beloved Joan Teann Robinson departed this life suddenly on January 14, 2026. She was born to the late Harvey Lee Woodfin and the late Josephine "Mickey" Woodfin Dabney on November 1, 1951.
Joan Teann Robinson was a proud graduate of Peabody High School's infamous class of 1969. She attended Virginia State University and Virginia Commonwealth University. Joan Teann Robinson married and then started her family with the birth of her daughter, Kenya R. Robinson. She began and finished her professional career with the City of Richmond. She dedicated her life of work to two departments: Social Services and the Department of Finance until her retirement.
Joan Teann Robinson loved people. She was a caring and loving person and never met a stranger she couldn't befriend. You felt loved with and when interacting with her. She was spiritually and wonderfully social – a "pillar" for others who also found joy in the simple rhythms of a bingo game or a poem. Her passion of poetry was only surpassed by her love for family and friends. She loved her bonus children and her greatest joy was to be called "Mama T."
Joan Teann Robinson was a mother and a nana in the truest sense, extending her maternal care to everyone she met. Whether you needed a prayer, words of encouragement, food, laugh or just a helping hand, Mama T was always there, always willing. She will be remembered most for her kindness and selfless spirit.
She was preceded in death by siblings, Harvey L. Woodfin, Jr., Rickey Dabney, Elaine Simmons, and Claudia Redwine Coleman.
Her memory is cherished by her daughter, Kenya Robinson (Stevie "Troy" Haskins); granddaughter, Keonda Stevens, and great grand dog Koda; numerous bonus sons and daughters; step-mother, Mary Woodfin; aunt, Eva D. Murray; brothers, Kenny Woodfin, Tommy Woodfin (Virginia Toni), LeRoi Ferby (Raemonika), Robert Bryant (Otelia) and Rickey Lewis; sisters, Indiana Wynn, Jane Hill Brown, Patricia Bolling, Makka Sabbakhan, Sheila "Kaybeth" Robertson Clanton and the remaining members of the "Fanny Hill" Gang; brother-in-law, Wilfred Coleman, Jr. and sister-in-law Kathie Dabney, the Redwine family, the Scott family, and the Jones family; in addition to a host of many loved nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
A special thank you to Pamela L. Griffin, Kaeyhane Woodfin Shaw, Sasha Yulee, Yolanda Hampton, Vanessa Campbell, Daphne Fobbs, Cassandra Hines, Brenda Cotten Morgan, Yeta Philips, The Light Community Church Golden Years Ministry, Francine Sparrow, Karen Hines, Dr. Banks-Turner, Diana King, Natalie Richardson, VSU Rebirth and Continuation Unity Prayer Warriors; the Bingo Buddies, Nita Gold and Wilma Harris at Atlantic Twin Hickory; and a special thanks to Kenny Massey for his song dedication.
