Obituary

Jim Cook, Sr., affectionately known as "J.C." or "JC Muscle", was born on October 1, 1958, in Dinwiddie, Virginia, to Walter Bell and Lillie Cook. He attended Petersburg Public School and graduated from Petersburg High School. From a young age, he showed his dedication and hard work. With a caring heart, he became a certified nursing assistant. Later, he served in the United States Army and worked as a Trash Collector at the Petersburg Refuge Department until he retired.

J.C. had a lively and healthy spirit and competed in various bodybuilding competitions, winning many. He was a proud member of the Wolfgang Gym and Fitness Center in Richmond, VA. Even as he grew older, he continued to train and exercise while mentoring others. J.C. was always friendly and approachable, and because he loved people, he started his own moving company to help others with their moves.

J.C. helped and supported everyone, treating them like family. Besides his moving company, he was a "jack of all trades" at many local convenience stores, including Salem & Sons of Dinwiddie, VA, Ream's Station Inc., Marathon, and Exxon FoodMart of Richmond, VA. With his infectious smile, boisterous voice, and tenacious heart, his influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew him. He quietly departed this life Sunday, July 12, 2026, at his home in North Dinwiddie, Virginia.  He was preceded in death by his mother, Lillie Cook; brother, Larry E. Cook; sister, Lillie E. Cook; and his brother, Leon Crenshaw.

His beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of his children: Genita Taylor Jones (Thomas) of Henrico, VA, Jim Cook, Jr. of Petersburg, VA, Siretha Goad of Raleigh, NC, Brandon Williams of Lutz, Florida, and Joshua Braxton of Richmond, VA; stepson, Corey Southall; stepdaughters, Nicole and Josephine Taylor both of Petersburg, VA, and Rocheal Southall of New Orleans, LA; devoted nephews, Pernell Pope of Waverly, VA and Larry Cook of Petersburg, VA; devoted nieces, Samantha Gilliam of Wilson, NC and Mizelle Cook of Dinwiddie, VA; six sisters, Georgia Matalatala of Baltimore, MD, Berthinia (Tina) Vaughn of North Chesterfield, VA, Bonita Cook of Wilson, NC, Kimberly Cook Hill of Petersburg, VA, Lee "Babysis" Giles of Hampton, VA and Tammy Crenshaw of Petersburg, VA; one brother, Michael Crenshaw (Marianne) of Petersburg, VA; one aunt, Ethel Booker of North Chesterfield, VA; sister-in-law, Adrian Cook of Dinwiddie, VA; four grandchildren, Bianca Curry-Silver, Taikee Jones, Lacora Richardson and Jayden Baker; three great grandchildren, amongst them Jasai Jones; lifelong weight-training/gym buddies, Randy Batts, Herbert Blowe, Sr., Marvin Holmes, Ed Jones, Clifton Riley, Harry Silas, Danny Wright, Marc Davis, Kenny James, and Brian Martin; devoted friends, Lorna Morton, Dr. Clarence Scranage, Irving "Hercules" Peoples, Jr., Florence Washington, Dr. Douglas B.
