Obituary

Jeanette Minor, a devoted mother, cherished grandmother, loving sister, and loyal friend, peacefully departed this earthly life on June 30, 2025, at the age of 85. Born in Darien, Georgia, on May 16, 1940, to the late James Brown and Hattie Inez Brown, Jeanette's life was a reflection of unwavering love, strength, and service to those around her.

Following the loss of her parents, Jeanette was lovingly raised by her aunt and uncle, John and Queen Hicks, in Brunswick, Georgia. Her early years were marked by faith, family, and resilience. She was baptized at Shiloh Baptist Church, where she would walk to attend services - a testament to her commitment to her spiritual upbringing. She was educated in the Glynn County School System and carried with her the values of hard work, honesty, and compassion throughout her life.

Jeanette's life journey took her to Waverly, Virginia, where she married and lived until she moved. She faithfully attended First Baptist Church, Waverly, Virginia until moving to Hopewell. She later found love again and married the late James Jimmy Minor. After they married, Jimmy received an order to move to Texas. After Jimmy retired from the Army they settled in Petersburg, Virginia. In every community she called home, Jeanette formed deep, lasting connections and left behind warm memories that continue to inspire.

Jeanette was no stranger to hard work. She was employed at the Tasty Freeze, where she served with care and a smile that brightened every customer's day. Later, she joined the team at Seward & Luggage, where her dedication and work ethic earned her the admiration of her colleagues. She retired from Seward and Luggage after many years of faithful service, leaving behind a legacy of diligence and pride in a job well done.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Minor; brother, James Brown, Jr.; and her sisters, Jeanie Brown, Susie Brown, Leola Palmer, Viola Archer, Rosa Shears, Annie Corinthian Delk-Turner, Carolyn Brown Pinkney and Willie Mae Brown Ferguson.

Jeanette is lovingly remembered by her son, Leon Brooks (Robyn) of Upper Marlboro, MD; daughter, Nicole Dunham of Townsend, GA; grandson, Micol Bloodworth of Boynton Beach, FL; granddaughter, Krystle Campbell of Townsend, GA; great grandchildren, Amiya and Amila Bloodworth, and Justus Ratliff; sister-in-law, Lottie Mae Brown; brothers-in-law, Ernest Palmer, Joshua Shears and Nelson Archer; nieces, Catherine Campbell, Diane Saddler (John) and Linda Ferguson; devoted nephew, Crenshaw "Carty" Turner; devoted nieces, Edith Key (Jerome), Terri Taylor (Tony) and Carol Palmer-Artis (Timothy); neighbors, Brian and Shabaka Moore and James Reese; best friend, Loretta Nazario and her family Bryant and Gideon; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and loved ones, also mourn her passing.

Jeanette was best known for her loving heart and unapologetic honesty. She gave freely of herself, offering support without hesitation. Her kitchen was filled with the sweet aroma of homemade fruitcakes and cookies every Christmas—a tradition her family will forever treasure. She loved traveling, especially with her niece Carol and found joy in simple pleasures like shopping trips to Walmart, Target, HomeGoods and Casinos. Often turning everyday errands into memorable adventures. She told her nieces not to tell her son about their outings. They felt comfortable having confidential conservations and seeking advice because they knew she could be trusted to keep a secret.

Jeanette Minor's legacy is one of fierce love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to her family and faith. Her strength, honesty, and generosity touched all who knew her.

"Though she's gone, her memory stays, A light that will guide us through our darkest days."

Forever in our hearts. Rest in love, Jeanette.
